Post by: DarkAngel on September 18, 2004, 11:41:10 PM
Im Putting together possible upgrades for my next pc i was thinking about that dotw the amd athlon xp 3200+ it would be nice but can any1 suggest a descent mb?

There is some 512MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM (DDR400) on sale in aria.co.uk for
£47 which is dam good value i think tho i can not think of a descent mb to put them together.

As for the rest of the system i can just take from what i have, any input is muchly appriciated.

Graphics Card im looking at is the ATI Radeon X800 XT .... :dribble:

See the deal in the DOTW thread that Norm put together.  The AN7 is like an NFS-7 v2.0 with a few upgrades added.  A solid and reliable mobo that whilst not the absolute top of the pile (and hence also not bloody expensive) will definetely not disappoint.

Have a chat with Norm.  His package had  1GB of OCZ Platinum dual channel ram in it which is a little better spec'd than the 512MB 'no-name' single stick one you quoted in your post.  If you want a single 512MB stcik of no-name ram then I am sure Norm could help you.

Should you buy it?  I have no idea, but it is a fine mobo/cpu combination and if you go for it, the OCZ ram is storming.  If you can, you might want to think about going for 2x256MB to run dual channel rather than just 1x512MB.  The extra memory bandwidth is worth it.

Sorry I tend to shy away from no-name stuff especially memory(got a rep to keep ;) ),but probably do some dual channel ocz for around sixty pounds(2x256)

Not really.  The XP-M is simply an XP3200 quality cpu that has been set to run more slowly using a lower voltage.

Guess what:  Whack the voltage back up, change the multiplier and the FSB and Robert is your father's brother.
