Title: freezing ingame
Post by: suicidal_monkey on September 22, 2004, 11:42:10 AM
It's now happened 2 or 3 times...

mid-game I freeze up, much like a typical lag-freeze, only some of the graphics (decals I think, e.g. carpetting on the floor of the new route of de_inferno) flicker in and out of visibility and I can't move around the map (at least my grahpics can't...) but I can see the other players running past me. At the start of a new round I'm still stuck with the same static position (I can turn around but not move) and the only way to resolve the issue seems to be to reconnect to the server.

Anyone heard of this bug before?

Any custom skins etc in use? If so uninstall. :)

awww...
 :eyebrow:
...any other possible reasons? And surely it'd happen more frequently?

I'll give it a go, the custom T skins can go, but the custom sounds I've had for ages so they stay! It's nice to change the look of the game every now and again!

CS doesn't actually crash as such. When the freezing has ocurred, it's seemed random, and perhaps after some time (an hour last night?) of playing. All I have to do to get going again it to hit the tilde key and type "retry" in the console. CS doesn't stop running so I assume it's just a graphics-bug. I'm going to try removing the custom T skins, although it's hard to know if that's the link because I've had the skins for quite a while and only had the freeze thing happen 2 or 3 times...

I had it once, Sunday, it kept flashing the flush entity thing on the top right of my screen aswell. Since then I didn't have it again.
Also boxes and so were gone and then suddenly back and so. It might have been my F@H I think.
And no, I do not use other models.

Sounds like lag to me, really.

Put net_graph on and look at the ping it's reporting when you have these freezes (net_graph 2 or net_graph 3 in console) - if it looks crazy and not at all like the  ping you should have then you're lagging out.

Having boxes and things disappear will be HL removing entity information from the map because you aren't recieving the info you need from the server.

If it was lag then it was really bad.
The netgraph thing looked okay though, I have it allways on.
