Title: RAM PCB Bottleneck
Post by: TeaLeaf on November 03, 2004, 07:20:42 AM
Finally someone has caught on to what has been known by overclockers for some time.  Different PCB designs make a difference to your RAM performance!  OCZ have run their own design (by Brian Power) for sometime and this has allowed them to give over-volted lifetime warranties on their RAM sticks.  This article (http://www.legitreviews.com/article.php?aid=53) tells you the difference.  It's a pity they didn't test the spectacular Rev 3 of the OCZ sticks, but the Rev 2 won anyway :D

Interestingly, it seems that Corsair have just caught on too as they are moving away from their current JDEC reference PCB design to the same Brain Power PCB that OCZ have been using.  But be careful, they will not be issuing a new model number, just replacing stocks as they run out with the new version PCB, so you'll need to be lucky or knowledgeable to get the new version of the Corsair RAM.  Then again go and buy the OCZ or PQI and you won't have to worry about getting the wrong PCB....... ;)
