Title: Server configs
Post by: OldBloke on December 06, 2002, 12:05:05 PM
Gents,

I would like to get some agreement between us as to how we want the servers configured. Doggers has decided to rebuild the configs to try and get over the many problems of server control we are all suffering. It would help him immensely, i'm sure, if we had a model to aim for.

My own view is such:

Meat Hook

Any mods you like as long as they are all happy bedfellows and do not cause conflicts between each other.

MR12 (or more if 12 is thought to be too short). This would introduce the concept of 'winning' the map as has been discussed in previous threads.

Start money set at 5000. It makes sense to start a map with the proper weapons needed to attack/defend rather than always perform a 'pistol rush'.

Baldric

Clanmod only with absolutely NO server messages produced whatsoever.
No TK punish of any description.
Server config to reflect the standard match settings i.e. MR12, FFon etc etc.

Anyone else with an input?

That sounds good to me - as long as the 3 restart button doesn't give out the server password again

ok, gonna throw this one in.....

HLTV on both.... with auto demo record that uploads the demos to a secure ftp site that admins can d/l

Demo's are recorded per map, and kept for a period of time before they are wiped.

possible?

AFAIK the only way to record a demo is to rcon into the HLTV server and start the recording manually.

An HLTV demo recording is an excellent idea though as we would automatically get a free tactics demo from the other team :D   It would also be nice to have an additional person (not playing) who can watch the server logs (as you did last night Oldie) to see if anything interesting comes up.

Is rcon'ing into the HLTV server possible or a right royal PITA?

There's a bit more to it than that.

There's bandwidth usage to be considered (to save bandwidth it can be set up just to record demos i.e. no spectators are allowed to join).

Demos are big and take up space as well as bandwidth (when they're eventually downloaded).

There's the historical problems of getting HLTV up and to stay up.

Having said all that, rcon is a doddle (if it works).

That would be fine me thinks.  Its contribution would be the demo only.  It wouldn;t need to record anything other than matches or let any spectators join imo.

True.  I have to admit to having no idea how big a match demo would be, but it must be possible to set something like a rota set up whereby one of us downloads the demo straight away to release disk space for the server and then uploads it to their webbie for dl by those interested?  I would guess that there aren;t that many people that would be THAT interested, but I would be.  If they're really big I would probably get a colleague to download them for me as he's got broadband and I don't

Now that I can appreciate.  But hopefully on a clean config server it shouldn't fall over quite as much  :o

Doggers

There were some difficulties on the server earlier tonight prior to the match (Sheepeh posted about it elsewhere).  Somewhere along the line the configs have gone awry.

I met up with Smite in IRC and he asked me to go to baldric to run him through some of the rcon comands so that he knew what to do for matches in the future.  He got onto baldric first...and that was when the trouble started.

Whilst he was in baldric:

- my clanmod menu wouldn;t even come up
- my adminmod menu came up but no commands were accepted
- everytime I ran a command I go the message "An admin with a higher level is on the server"

When Smite left baldric temporarily (as an experiment) both clanmod and adminmod started working again.  As soon as he joined again they stopped working.

Any clues as to what is going on at all?

If the mods cause this much trouble can't we strip baldric of both clanmod and adminmod and just use rcon?  If it runs match config on baldric all the time then all we need to know is changelevel and restart round.

If this were done we could give all clan members access to those commands on baldric only.

As Walter Cronkite used to say: "Any thoughts, any comments, any anecdotes?"

Doggers, we really do need this sorted out.  I was on MeatHook earlier tonight and both clanmod and adminmod worked just fine, but when I went on to Baldric for the praccie match both failed - telling me (as posted previously) that an admin with a higher level was already on the server.

G-man could get some of his commands to work, I could not get a single thing to work.  We HAVE to have this sorted out as it makes it impossible to know whether or not an admin will be able to admin for matches!

Is there anything we can do to help you get the configs sorted ASAP?

Yup. Some work. Like speech in clan mod (nice and useless) and Tsay and Csay in admin mod. But when it comes to slaying peeps (we had 2 AFKers tonight) it says that I don't have access to this command.

Now when I login to MH, I get the 'admin-unable to find player' (Or similar) message but I do get every so often the 'You have been re-authed with admin mod' message pop up in the centre of the screen.
