What I want to know is why BT do not offer an ADSL only option? It would all be so much easier if I could get ADSL without having to pay the initial £10.50 for a phoneline I will never use for making phonecalls. They force you to buy a service even if you don't need it.

sigh. And I don't like telewest anymore, but they're the only non-landline broadband option I can think of in the uk!? :help:
btw, this is for a "lite" internet household who don't want a landline and don't want to pay very much at all per month...
as far as iam aware of if u want adsl u will need a BT line or there is wireless bb now...my boss has it or has inquired about it
wireless BB... if you mean something like the vodafone 3g cards... that's not cheap! ;)
Oh, I found one non-BT service. The Bulldog 4Mb Central-London thing. 2 months free, but then it's like £40 a month.
Think the best option is Virgin.net for 17.99 a month, no long contracts, no connection fees, no cancellation fees. Include the BT line rental and that's 28.49 per month. Not so terrible I guess. Don't think telewest service the area, plus they have annoying 12-month contracts (annoying for those of us who haven't found a house where we know we're staying for over a year...)
It's just frustrating that you have to have a phone line and pay for phone rental to get ADSL. I'd have thought you could easily work in an adsl-only option for a lower line rental per month... sigh <_<
