It's a competition to design a dMw branded wallpaper. The type that users download and install on their PCs (if they so wish. Some will obviously not wish to overwrite their existing TellyTubbies).

can ne 1 reccomend a good grafix program.
just want something simple to operate that looks resonably good.
ie diffrent text styles etc and the ability to edit pics.
at the moment i have no such program but have a good idea 4 this back ground thing.
I like Ulead PhotoImpact ( http://www.ulead.co.uk/ (http://www.ulead.co.uk/) )which costs around £70 but it may be overly intricate for what you need. There is a freeware program called "the Gimp" available at ( http://www.gimp.org/ (http://www.gimp.org/) ). I keep meaning to try it but haven't got round to it yet. Another great favourite is Paint Shop Pro ( http://www.jasc.com/ (http://www.jasc.com/) ) which is going for around £40 - £50 just now. I'm sure other people will have their own favourites :-)
Adobe PhotoShop is widely acknowledged as the best and most powerful of the bunch. I've never had a copy or access to a copy so I can't tell you any more than that.
Jasc Paint Shop Pro 7 is the runner-up. It's a great program, with many of the features that Photoshop has and a generally uncomplicated way of doing things. It's the best program for novices and tinkerers. I finally got a copy last week, so I've been playing around with it a wee bit :) PSP is generally sold for £80, but I got my copy for £50.
The Gnu Image Manipulation Program (the GIMP) is arguably the best free program. They've released a few builds for win32 now, so it's no longer *nix only. GIMP is much harder to figure out and I'm not sure how deep the features go, but it's a very capable program that you can get for free - and modify, should you have the skillz, because it's open source.
Lots of plug-ins for GIMP too. The site is http://www.gimp.org/ (http://www.gimp.org/).

wish i could i just started making one and i cant get the text to work properly on Photoshop. Where i would normally make some text at 50 pt on a 300X150 pixels banner it has to be 1000 pt to even see it. :cry:
Ive uninstalled and re-installed a few times but somewhere there is a file hiding that is keeping the old settings, ive searched under photoshop-ps7-adobe i have also removed all photoshop registries but still nothing.
D.loading the phothoshop 7 patch ATM lets see if that fixes the damn thing (as long as it doesnt look at my copy of PS7 and say oy that aint yours 8O )
So as soon as i sort this i will be back with my version.....

Oh yeah, PhotoPaint. One girl I know who's one of those insanely arty people (http://www.mettesart.com/) swears by it - does huge amounts of anime (and some other stuff) using mostly Corel.
Edit: Except I've just found out that she switched to Adobe about a year ago :)
I've never used it though, and as I still haven't bothered to get the hang of vector drawing in PSP, I doubt I'd be any good with PhotoPaint...

Actually embed the dMw text onto the back of the boots that would look excellent.

Well he'd have to get the permission of the person who actually did the image in the first place. But if that was forthcoming, then a fade to black on the left as you said, and a "canvas size" increase to the relevant resolutions (preserving the fade gradient, of course) would leave it as quite a neat background :)
I'd probably not use it myself though ;)

I would like a CS themed wallpaper at 1024 X 768 with the left-hand third being reasonably plain so I can easily determine the multitude of desktop icons that I really must get round to pruning one day.
The images are best sourced from in-game screenies.
The text should be in a rusty metal finish using the Niamey font.

Got the right font ....Cant quite work out how to do Rusty yet but im still playing at it and trying stuff out.

Rusted up as best i can get it.
The plugin blueball gave me i couldnt get to work properly (it made it bright green and not looking like rust at all so prolly somat im doing wrong) so i made up a texture that was close to the N42 webby background but it aint great.
Sorry oldie it is the best i can do until i figure out another way of getting more realistic.

Whether it is or not, the first version that you posted is still the best of the three. I don't particularly like the text on any of them though, and I'm not sure why.
That picture is pretty cool. Would it be possible to have more of the picture and a less abrupt fade-out? Or maybe a background other than black. Heh, it would be cool if you could just make the background one huge continuation on the explosion, but that might look a bit ... overkillish ;)

The picture was not actually that big so where i cropped it, it had text and as to the extension of the explosion i think i could do it but it will take ages and i cant be arsed.
The black background is how i normally have it so i just continued with it but i m sure i could change it if needed for requests but nobody has made any requests yet.
The text is what oldie asked for so i just made some variations with it.
TBH im getting bored with trying to make this rust effect ive been in contact with VP from N42 about the way he made his and he gave me a large section he made but it still doesnt come out too good.
Tufty go for it i need someone else to have a go coz im the only one posting now.

If larger versions are required i have 1152x864 and 1024x768 but as they are high res i havnt put them on the web
I was suprised that people liked it as it was only a 15 minute job..Add picture shadow picture cut picture resize picture rectangle marquee it with feather edging add text set inner shadow on text rasterize text make chrome effect text change depth of bevel decrease depth of waves to chrome and bevel picture with contour and low opacity see so it only took me about 15 mins ....you lot are easily pleased if i had known that i could have made this ages ago :D :D
