Not sure if you guys who bought the retail pack r in the same situaton as i am! I don't get hl source or dod source unless i buy silver although i have HL2 and CS:S retail! So the only people i can deduce tht can play those two games are silver and gold steam buyers. Retail only comes with cs:s and hl2 it seems which is unfair i feel. I know i am moaning but is tht fair to make us have to pay again just to get two games? I therefore am going to wait till another batch come out and will be buying all valve games on steam from now on!

i bought silver because i knew this
you make your choice and pays ya money.
you forget about the CE edition, I tihnk that comes with backcatalogue.
from what ive heard there "may" be an optoin to upgrade you account to silver (similar tohave a ati voucher) and only pay the difference. But i dont think thats available yet, and i dont know whether that includes retail package.

From what I can tell from people in IRC, HL:S really isnt' worth it anyway. It keeps all the old models and textures, so basically all it is is HL with ragdoll, 3d skyboxes, and hl2 water (which looks out of place). Just wait for one of the HL remakes mod teams are working on instead.
Dont moan just buy the package you want, buying it through steam is a little more but you get the goods and they give you remade games as a bonus.
How to find out what to buy from steam.
Start up steam, click play games and from play games, select browse games.
There's everything mentioned you wanna buy from steam (unless the page is down, like now)

I bought retail with the full knowledge I was only getting HL2 and CS:S and that I would get it cheaper than buying Bronze over steam. I really don't care about the back catalogue and t-shirts etc, it's not like I'm going to play anything other than CS:S and HL2 online anyway! :rolleyes: If I really wanted to buy the old games too I might have considered Steam:silver.
My main complaint with the retail DVD is that I have to put the disc in the drive to play! Hopefully this will be patched out at some point in the future, the sooner the better, but I'm guessing not a for a few weeks :eyebrow:
It was pretty obvious when you went to purchase it retail that you were getting the Bronze version of things. No doubt HL:S and DOD:S will become available separately at a later date. I'm guessing DOD is no longer a free mod then? Ah well, something new and exciting will come along in its place no doubt! 8)
