Just noticed on my System Information it says:
Total Physical Memory 256.00 MB
Available Physical Memory 89.53 MB
Something tells me this aint right?
I have a few processes running, and applications, at this particular point, MSN, IExplore, Zone Alarm, Norton, plus all the usual SVCHOST etc etc but these only total around 105MB memory used. Where's me extra 61.4MB gone. And isnt that a bit abnormally high usage anyways?
61.4MB err your operating system?
I spotted it. you need more RAM!
256Mb isn't a lot these days :)
sometimes, when badly written or abnormally terminated programs close they fail to free up memory which they had claimed for use. This memory is tagged as in-use by the pc but in fact is no longer in use at all! Try one of those little programs that frees up your memory :)
but like Bob said...256 ain't a lot these days! I have 512 and feel that I am cutting it fine with that!

Are you running XP? open task manager (right click on taskbar and select from popup menu).
Then select the "Performance" tab
Now look at the "Physical memory" Box (right side below page File usage graph)
I have a Gb of memory and, like you, not that much loaded in the background. However, Task Manager gives:
Total (K) - 1048044
Available - 616556
System Cache - 379328
As you see, it is quite normal to "lose" lots of memory; the operating system is using it for things various.
PS get more ;)
Not gonna get more, as Im buying a new PC come next year, and would have to upgrade my mobo to fit more (its old) so I guess I will just have to survive, and watch my copy of HL2 grow dusty... :(
Fair enough, would be a wasted upgrade then. You know it amazes me. A few years ago I had a PC with 8MB of RAM and it ran games fine!
Now you need closer to 1024MB!!
