Title: Going downhill
Post by: Anonymous on December 15, 2004, 10:07:51 AM
Positive: Good website, decent prices.

Negative: i think they are starting to suffer from their own success. Of the last 3 things I preordered none were received by release date. it used to be that you got it on or just before release date. I'm going to give play.com or sendit.com a try to see if they are better.

I did the same thing and ordered HL2 from Play rather than Amazon but it didn't arrive until 4-5 days after it was available in the shops.

I've always had pretty good service from amazon. They tend to tell you when things are being delayed and do actually give reasonably accurate delivery estimates. I got HL2 on time from Amazon.

My main gripe with Amazon is the terrible way they lst their products, especially "by price". You get results of many items with no price, often many discontinued items, and lots of non-amazon retailers (new&used)

For many products the have good prices, but shop around a little because they aren't always the cheapest!

I always use play! from my experience games usually come the day after released in shops. Did not get unreal untill about 5 days after because they ran out of stock but got a £2 voucher not alot i know but how many other places would do that! :D

With amazon i have noticed if you use the super saver delivery it is in the post the same time as any other type of post but they hold on to it for a few days before posting! swines :(

I quite like Amazon (but I'm still quite new to internet shopping & I've not really gone anywhere else)
As Suicidal said the product listing can be a bit annoying when half the stuff in the list isnt even in stock anymore.
One thing I did like, I pre-ordered a cd & they changed the price a few days after I'd ordered it, & instead of just making me pay the price I'd ordered it at they gave me the diferance back, dunno if other places do that, I thought it was nice.

Good website, great selection, mostly good prices but I would definitely agree that they are going downhill.

My last order with them before christmas left me without my new camera, the day before I went on holiday - when the "normally ships within 24 hours" became "two weeks" without any form of notification or apology. Oddly, I then ordered a camera from amazon.com instead (I was going to the states, so it kinda made sense), and it was delivered in less than 36 hours from the point of clicking to order. So it's not Amazon as a whole necessarily - maybe just the UK whose systems, they claimed, they were having difficulties with leading up to Christmas.

In fact, I have trouble believing that anyway. They're running the same software, I presume, as amazon.com. Yet amazon.com can cope with orders from the entire USA, and ship from kentucky to new york in under 36 hours,  8 days before xmas. But amazon.co.uk can't do the same?

Something's up, there.

And I thought they only had it in for me! I ordered a joystick from them almost 2 weeks ago (normally 24hours etc) First thing that got me was that 10 minutes after ordering I thought 'I don't need another joystick' and went to cancel. It was on it's way already! This was at 10:30pm Saturday night, couldn't cancel. Oh well at least I'll have it by Monday.  :lmfao: Finally got it Friday evening. Parcel Force told me it was collected from Amazon the day before (Thursday) I sent an abusive email which you'll probably get circulated any time soon! Never again, you've s**t it Amazon
