Title: Dont laugh.....
Post by: Norm on December 18, 2004, 08:09:19 PM
..but now everytime I join a server cs/cz my dvd draw starts an open draw, close draw read sequence. This continues throughout time on server,as soon as I disconnect it stops. <_< This has the effect of makeing me play with lagg spikes(although it doesnt show any),and my headphones have strange noises comeing through them. :eyebrow: It was ok today when I joined server with TL,Doris and company(even though the promptly left, must get different aftershave, hope santa brings me some :D ).Have I missed something obvious

I can obsolutely positively guarantee that it is not a sound file from HL/HL2 or anything that Valve infected our PCs with.  For example, one of the pieces I get to listen to is a midi file version of the 'Kyrie' from the sung Latin mass 'Missa L'Hora Passa' by Ludovico da Viadana.  I know it is this because (i) I know it was my sister who recorded and sent me the midi file and (ii) I know the piece as I have been trying to learn the bass line as the choir I sing in will be singing it at Church this Christmas Eve at Midnight Mass.  Valve would definitely *not* supply that!

This random music playing has occured to me once before and it seemed to cure itself after a few weeks.  It did not return until a few days ago.

Anyone any other ideas as to what might be causing it?

That happened to me once. I ended up playing a whole map's worth of Billie Holiday, wondering what the hell was going on. ^^

Which I think, we can safely assume, proves that this is yet another aspect of steam that Valve have borked and not yet fixed.

I do not have a music CD in the drive at all.  It has the CustomPC Benchmarking Utilities CD in there at the moment so the CD is not the source of any music.

I tried to find the post, but I just read that they disabled the CD check for those that bought the media.  Wonder if it inadvertantly broke something else?  I believe this was in the past two weeks that the change was made.

Funny thing happenend to me too.

As it plays whatever is inside the CD, and since my girlfriend always has Moby inside the PC, I got to know the first track as... a Loading music for CS :-)
Now I cannot listen to it without having my mind relate it to CS  :eyebrow:
