Suddenly this evening I find I cannot connect to games of CS or CZ. It gets as far a s the "Establishing network connection to server" progress bar, but the bar never progresses and hl.exe sits in my processes list eating 40% of my cpu and around 60Mb of RAM, doing nothing. I have to end process to get it to go away.
I tried a restart after the first time it happened, but it hasn't done anything to fix it. Any ideas?
Edit: it was working fine a couple of hours ago, as TL, Norm and whoever else was playing this afternoon will know. All I've done in the interim is reinstall Athena Sword, and I can't see how that would have changed anything.
That can happen if steam is trying to update whne you try to join
But it's not trying to update :(
I've searched Steam forums for you. lots of people having same problem and no answers posted - sorry m8 - can't think of anything else (I won't insult you by suggesting you check your firewall coz I guess you already did that)
userconfig.cfg got corrupted and kept trying to exec itself - it was causing the thing to get into a loop it didn't like.

Dont be fooled by steam, Sometimes it will say it isn't updating when infact it still is. Check the monitor window (from menu on the trayicon) to check if it is infact still updating.
and sometimes, restarting (logging in again) on your steam account will sort the problem to.
