hmm, last time I d'led a mmorpg thingy just to "have a look at" I ended up playing it none stop for about 6 months, which is just about the time I vanished from the servers, so I'm not really sure if I should go anywhere near that at all.

Right, had a brief look, and it ain't half bad, especially for a freebie! The initial leveling is a bit slow and boring, but once you get going, it can be a good laugh, although slashing earthworms to bits for a couple of hours to get somewhere does get a bit tiring!  <_<

Twig, want to meet up during the game...

You can "party" with other players and you share the recourses, its more fun than just owning on ur own or dieing on your own.

Problem i have with the game is that it does take along time to progress when you get further up the levels.

I might just be rubbish but i'm finding my characters to be quite weak in the power side of things :(

I can't remember the exact server name...

But try to go on the servers beginning with X

Server 1 and 2 you are able to use your 3 characters on... but if you go on a different server, you will have to re-create a character...

i believe :S

But its all good fun.

My names are:

Bunce
Buncey
Bunzel

V original :P

See you all on there :D

If anyone want helps to level up bit quicker... organise to meet me and we can work through it

When you party with me, being a higher level i can kill bigger things and you get EXP points quicker, also i can help you complete some quests quicker so you can level up.

I was doing this for a while with Steve (Jobok) and i think i was helpful.

Offers there :)

This is pathetic.  I am getting 2.48kbps from the official download server and it will take 2 days to download if it doesn't time out (which it did on last night's overnight attempt).

Can anyone point me in the direction of an active torrent for the file, or can I have some FTP details PM's to me by some kind soul who wishes to offer the file and their bandwidth to me?

I can't offer anything other than a direct connection to me via msn or something... as i dont have an FTP Server setup at home anymore.
If really want i'll do it 2night when i get back :)
Otherwise... i'd try the mirror : Link to mirror (ftp://wizgate.nefficient.co.kr/pub/wizgate2/knight/usa/knightonlinesetup_1264_04.exe)

I tried the mirror and it was fine for 29MB but then dropped me and seemed to have problems.  I don't know if it is based on a home PC but the speeds were equivalent to ADSL upload speeds.  Never mind :(  I've got another link now so am downloading it now.

If we team up, do you guys need a character which you don't have?
Which is the best to chose? I've been reading the site a little bit.

Duvel :) I noticed and will look forward to talking to you when you're online.

Tomorrow i'm on at about 9pm again. So if people are around then, then perhaps we can arrange to meet up.

BFC - There are some quests to do, the whole game to start with is a little baffling i guess agreed... but i shall and will be more than welcome to help people through the levels as best and quick as possible as i can.

The crystal isn't really needed for you yet, in all honesty i've still got one and i'm not sure what to use it for yet. So may as well sell it. My best character at the moment is also a rogue so i might be able to help you out.

Duvel - I'd go for team El Morad... and start on the server called "Xigenon" 1 or 2, doesn't matter.

As for character... well... it is entirely up to you...
If you wish to help us along when we play as a team, then perhaps go for a priest... as you can heal us while we kill the beasts... (you do benefit from us killing them btw)
If your a Mage, you can become quite powerful and be attacking from quite a safe distance to start with, until they get in close :P
This is the same for the Rogue.

Warrior side of things... i feel he can become very powerful... i just feel it will take a while longer due to the close combat.

One small problem with the game/server lag is that you can run away but the monsters seem to manage to hit you when you arn't really near them, but you get used to it. isn't a big deal really.

TL - i dont think the patches are big m8, in fact i'd say they are small, its just it doesn't have the highest bandwidth to send to you i believe, so may take 5 mins.

The problem with this game and meeting up for us... is that we have to use external comms to start with to get ourselves in a meeting point...  we have to be able to select each other before we can add each other to our friends section. it isn't like MSN where you can add an email address i'm afraid.

Again though, no biggy :) unless your all inpatient old men :P

Enjoy!

Assuming you get hooked on this nonsence then maybe World of Warcraft might be worth a butchers when it's released in mid Feb. It's gone huge in the USA and has gained some rave reviews, even being touted as the best MMORPG ever. It certainly addresses some of the horrible problems that buggered up Galaxies and Everquest, such as grinding levels, spawn and body camping and general none imersive gameplay.

i played EQ for 8 months and DAoC for 6 months. Ive dabbled in other MMOs (AO/UO/Galaxies etc).

Sadly they bore me but ive downloaded this, simply to have a laugh with u guys. Would be fantastic to get teamspeak going aswell.

WoW might be worth a look, i had shuneed it in beta as it looked too cartoony for my liking.

Like Bunce said, if we're going to team up (Deadmen SwordingandSorcering?) then a good force mix would be needed.

Fighters, Priest, Mages, Thieves/Rogues in balance. Or all become fighters and just charge around like Pompey fans on an off day.

Reminds me of my old AD+D days, used to be quite fun that.
I'm not well blessed with bandwidth to host a TS server, maybe I could use work in the evening but it's only 512/256 ADSL.

Does someone want to try the "dMw TeamSpeak Server" which you can find in the WebServer List in your client software (password as per MeatHook)

Please use CELP5.1 and maybe throttle back to 6k/s to minimise bandwidth usage

Codec Celp51
Codec Celp63
Codec WindowsCELP52
Codec SPEEX2150
Codec SPEEX3950
Codec SPEEX5950

Please use Celp51 in preference as I believe it has lowest bandwith requirements only move up to the others if you have problems (the voice quality on CELP51 is fine)

Ridiculous addictive game.......i blame Bunce !!!

lvl 30 Rogue now  :(

Quite a few of the controls are not too clear but if you can get a big gang to party then your experience points rocket as you all get the experience points for the kill but share the booty.

Take a time to wander the market stalls.......you'll often find items way underpriced ( and lots that are ridiculously overpriced ) that you can sell on at huge profit that'll help you get that latest snazzy bit of armour.

I'm actually quite annoyed now...

My Rogue is only level 25 and i've been playing longer than you... how'd you manage to get so high... i'm slcking big time :(

WoW will be my next thing i'm sure... i think due to the fact your paying to play the game, the servers wont be as laggy, the team if we can get one together should be that much more fun, and the ownage will be grand :D

Sadly... i dont know any details about the meat hook server or anything your going on about due to me not playing CS for a LONG time :( dont have it on pc anymore at all... kind of lost interest and time.
So if someone is willing to tell me the server details in a PM for the Team Speak then great... oh also... i can't seem to make my damn MIC work... i'm not sure if its my MIC or whether its the actual connection on the PC... It just doesn't want to recognise any sound on the mic... so i'll try a spare one tonight and see if its the MIC or the PORT :(

I'll ask again due to annoyance :P how'd you get to Level 30 so quickly :(
Theres me tryign to be nice and offer help to people who are lower leveled :S i'll be asking for your help soon :S

Anyone actually done the Gavolt Wings Quest? After trying to kill about 1000 of the bloody things i got... 1 Gavolt Wing.. buggas!

Get yourself to asga village ( 2 teleports from moradon ? ).....go stand outside and persuade some nice people to let you join their party while they take on some serious baddies.......i did 4 levels in less than an hour just leeching those experience points ( 2000+ point beast )

I'll let you in a secret....teleport out of moradon.....got to "sundries" shop page 2.....buy 9,999 arrows for 1 each....go back to moradon and set your stall up at the main entrance along with everyone else..............set the arrow plrice at 10 each ( a small mark up i admit )...and go and have your dinner...should be gone when you get back with a nice 90,000 profit. DON@T ALL START DOING IT...THAT@S MY SCAM !!!! ( havn't seen anyone else doing it - but there is a big market in arrows because people don't know they can be bought )....ususally someone buys the whole lot in one go off me

As there are a few of us playing should we create a dMw clan?

Starting A Clan

National Point & Clan Ranking
1. A player who wins a PvP battle will gain National Point.

2. A Clan points are calculated by adding up all of National Points from the
members of clan.

3. The clan is divided into five different grades based on clan points.

Gavolts are in a different town...
Keep wondering around and you'll find Jared, if you dont, i'll find the co-ords for you.
To type press ENTER then type... theres different sections to be able to type... if you are in a party... press party.. and you are now talking to just your party.
Sell stuff... just go to a trader... ie, the Potion trader... or arms trader... drag your stuff you wont to get rid of up into his section of the table... and it should give you some money.

The Gavolt quest is a bitch though, i've not done it, because it takes for ever to get the wings... i've killed god knows how many and got 1 wing... so gave up.

Don't do the Gavolt extermination quest......all you get is a lousy 700 experience points and some potions.......it had to kill about 500 of the buggers to find that out.....but i have a bow that kills em in one shot so it doesn''t take too long

Better still........get the Gavolt Wings and set up a trader stall and sell em for lots of cash ( i usually sell em for 85,000 no problem )

You really need to join in a party to get your experience points rocketing.......if you're a rogue hand around with Mages and Priests .....they love the Swift spell you can use on them. Also you canbuy"blood of wolf" from a sundries shop.........gives you kick TANGO attack power for a while.

Don't take the tough baddies on alone........you'll end up dead and losing points

Set up the bar at the left side of the screen with spells from skill screen and potions for health etc

Goblins are buggers...fast and nasty.......and don't accidentally shoot a Goblin Bouncer..........it annoys him and he comes and kills you instantly

You can make a lot by trading......but careful as you can lose a lot with the wrong buy.

Once you've met someone in game, you can add them to a Friends style list which allows you to PM them whenever they are on the server...

There is a similar seciton for clan members, once you become a member of a clan, all the clan members appear in a different Friends style section, this one cunnigly titled Clan, and again you can PM clan members.

These services can be accessed from the tabs at the top of your character window, which is itself accessible from the Character button at the bottom of the screen, or by pressing "C"

Title: KnightOnline
Post by: A Twig on January 12, 2005, 11:05:54 PM
You can't interact with people on seperate servers. They are different worlds in effect, information cannot pass from one to another. Thus if a clan member is on a different server he will register as offline, because the system registers your characters NOT your account name. Theoretically you could have 3 characters and be a member of 3 clans on the same server.

Perhaps helpful information:

To start with perhaps play the game as a window... This does require more mouse movement as there’s no setting for how fast scrolling is, but this way you are able to keep MSN up and visible, meaning you are able to communicate with external sources if, like me, you have not got a working microphone or team speak installed/working. It’s another means of managing to meet up with others in order to get clanned.

I'm going to create the clan with my Priest Character, he's level 20 but at the moment only has 300k+, I’ve setup a stand today just to sell some crap which will hopefully sell and give me a couple of coins. Otherwise, would someone be able to perhaps give me some of their money in order to get the clan started? (My MSN address is in profile btw)

Sadly, quest items are not able to be traded peer2peer, but I have a funny feeling they might be able to be bought from a stand... I’d like to test this with someone later... Anyone who needs some bulture horns or something alike please let me know and we'll meet up.

Main first step quests:
5 Silk Bundles - These can be traded. I have lots so just ask if you HAVE just started. This is the Beginners Quest from Proconsul(304,354). You don’t get much, but something’s better than nothing. You get a dagger and some exp I think.

5 Bandicoot Teeth - These are for Captain Kunabarl in Moradon (460,300), you only get 200 exp but hey. This is where I’m interested to find out if quest items like these can be "bought" through a stand, I believe they can because I’ve seen them... but never bought them, due to expenses. But if they can, then we can all help each other with quests.

Silan Quest - Take 5 Silan Bones, 5 Iron bars and 50,000 coins to Proconsul in Moradon(304,354) and he'll give you a piece of Silan Armor.
Now I’ve only done this quest once so far, so I’m not sure if you have to or can go back 4 times to get the whole armor set, or whether you get repeats of items.
So, another one to be tested.

Trader Kim quest - Trader Kim in Moradon(350,320). Take a Bulture Horn, a Fang of Wolf Man, and an Or Talisman to him and he'll reward you with 3,000 experience points, Upgrade Scrolls, and Coins. Again, this is a quest I’d like to test with if whether you can buy these items from me from a merchant stand.

Priest Veronica in Shrine of Life - Priest Veronica in Shrine of Life(400,370) At her request, retrieve Zignon’s will from Nashira and she’ll reward you with 3,000 experience points, 10 Water of Grace, and 10 Potion of Sagacity.  This quest is as simple as just finding the people. I can't remember the location of Nashira... but she's in town somewhere.

Guard Trainee Quest - Guard Trainee in Moradon(460,180), take him 5 Bulture Horns and get 5000 exp... Quite simple :) Bultures aren’t hard when you have a bit of level on you... but if you cba, then lets find out if you can buy the items off me.

Enough of quest info.

Clan side of things:

I'm going to be using my Priest character, as I say, only level 20 at the moment, mainly because really priests need to be with a party.
The best setup... in my opinion anyway.
From my experience so far, I’ve come to decide the Mages are strongest. Rogues are handy also but not as powerful.
I think a mage can go 2 ways, a Fire mage or an Ice mage... if we get a mixture of those 2 then that would be good.
Need some strong warriors... basically the warriors try to keep the damage away from the Rogues, Mages and Priests.

A priest doesn't really do much in way of attack, he may curse some things, but otherwise he/she should be healing all the team.
Healing the warriors while they are close to the enemy and the enemy isn't near the rear attack (Mages, Rogues).

For example, the way I was liking to play it last night.
If you've found out how to teleport to different town, then great. I was in Piana (I think that’s the town), we as a fairly large group were attacking Death Knights, now these buggas can kill in a few hits... so:
Had 1 Mage starting off the attack... he was high enough level to use some spells that slow down the enemy. I was at this point a Rogue, so as soon as he started and chosen his enemy I started, from a separate angle but still fair distance.
Had 2 fairly hard Warriors, who once we'd started, they moved in and in some cases gave a lot of the damage, but the priest was healing them and us. In some cases we didn't get a scratch on us because being a priest and mages are able to do some spells to make the whole party stronger or more defensive... so attacks were stronger. Anyway, when we killed one of these, which didn't take too long, we got about 2200exp each.
There was the question of whether it would be quicker to kill the Smilodons (look like big dogs) which would give us about 1100 each... but I found that we all still need to sit down and regain so might as well attack higher things and be a little damaged but get more exp then kill something quicker (which isn't always the case with the lag)

So in summary... depending how many people are going to be playing...

Need nice number of Mages, Few Warriors to get the high damage in, perhaps a rogue to just help out (using his heal when other are desperate), and then the priest, keeping us healthy.

Can people perhaps post whether they are going to be in the Clan?
So I can see a list of the characters we are going to have?

I have 2 friends who will be joining:
Drinkaholic = Warrior (Level 26 I think)
Essex Girl = Mage (Level 26) (Going for Fire Mage - Perhaps someone can go for Galcier and another Mage for for Lightning)
Bunzel = Priest (Level 20) (I'm going for the Healing side of things - SO perhaps another priest goes for Holy Spirit?)

These are only ideas, just best to be organised in our attacks, rather than all over place and not knowing what each others doing.

I got suspicious when ii've seen people repeatedly kill multiple beasts and not seem to pick up the "loot". Seems there are autoloot macros and programs. A little googleing showed that these also do other things that would in every other circle be considered cheating ( invincibility/raising levels of equipment/adjusting the "loot" to be more valuable etc etc etc

So it's adios from me on this game.

A little googleing showed that these also do other things that would in every other circle be considered cheating ( invincibility/raising levels of equipment/adjusting the "loot" to be more valuable etc etc etc

So it's adios from me on this game.

The autoupgrade doens't work for me ... I haven't even seen the game. Well, from your post I guess I will put no effort in making it work.

It isn't really that much of a problem to be honest. Plus I think there's hardly a MMPORG
out there without any macros etc etc.
Same with CS really - you can still enjoy the game and progress within it. And I don't always pick up the loot, its not normally worth it for me!

If you're firewalled, ive been watching which ports it uses. the launcher won't work without them open. All are TCP.

Launcher uses port

80, 21 (should have these open anyway or you couldn't surf or download)
15100 (ive opened this outbound only)

Once launcher has finished and the game kicks off I can only see

15001 (ive set this up for inbound/outbound)

Put them into my router last night and fired up the game with no problems, prior to this it wouldn't contact the update server.

The clan thing is going great, a few of us can invite others for the clan.
Today I had some excellent games with a fella called Benzinadiko and me and drinkaholic got to the conclusion to add him to dMw aswell (only for knightonline).
Remember that if you have a party with a couple of people you can add them through the clan thing in your party aswell.

When starting up a party, get a few new people in aswell (that's the ones with a symbol next to their name). If you help them increase Level you'll increase the chance to upgrade (got this from this Benzinadiko fella).
I hope he shows up in here for some more information.

Quick answers for you m8 as i need to sleep.

Drink was round mine for dinner.
To set up a trading stall, press the COMMAND tab>Select TRADE at the top>Select MERCHANT from the bottom> viola, setup what you want to sell and put a message at bottom saying how good your stuff is :)

BTW Duvel, i dont know about the MAPS question, will try find out.

To talk FATAL, just press enter, and you should get the option to type in the bottom BOX... which has the tabs like: CHAT, CLAN, PARTY, SHOUT etc... which are different qays to talking to people.
I,e, PARTY, is so your talkign to your party only.
And last but not least, when you're in a PARTY... the EXP is  given to everyone exactly the same... i think... but the goods picked up, are shared randomly to thePARTY... but as a clan, we can all trade and swap these goods with each other if we want.

Hope i've helped

The Teamspeak IP is earlier in this thread.

When on it will be easy to guide you around and pass on the knowledge on how to do things.

Re Parties knicking all the good bits - the game automatically distributes things.  You get a share of the money and your proportion of items.

The thing is, when people are in another city/valley, I sometimes get lost reaching them. How exactly do I get from town1----->town2---->town3----->

I hope you get it.

The teleporting is a bit confusing sometimes  :dummy:

Fatal, get TeamSpeak, get me or TL or Jobok (Squonk) in and we'll explain.
JAS (the big daddy with the skirt) knows alot aswell and we're all on TeamSpeak.

Fraid it actually varies according to your skill level and the level of involvement you had in the kill...
So if your a noob, jus sit and watch cos you'll be getting so much exp anyway it wont matter
But the higher up u go, the more you need to get involved.

Guys, if I'm having a tradingstand, don't buy from me, it seems that Armitage bought some arrows from me. Buy the arrows in Piana village where they cost 1$ each, I sell them for 10$ each, just to make money.
If anyone need a bigger weapon, give a shout on the forum here so everyone can take a look in their inventory.

If you've got any good priest armour/weapons or whatever, tell me please or Bunce.  :winkiss:

I'm so excited. So many dMw people playing a MMORPG. As soon as World of Warcraft (which no disrespect to KO, is a far more superior effort) is released in Feb, I fully expect to be playing alongside my clan mates.

Hold on though! It's £23.00 to buy and £8.99 a month subscription. Fat chance of any of you cheapskates showing up the servers then. Damn freeloaders  :eyebrow:

its not a scam :P its just taking advantages of the peeps who dont read or explore the game :P

Also... when WoW comes out, i will be trying it for sure... but will have to see.
It makes a big difference when playing with peeps like dMw who you know are good peeps and can play well together. But as its not free, i'm sure there will be some peeps who can't afford it... like myself, but hey, thats what debts for :P

Also, please keep eye out for some good priest stuff :)

It all depends on what character you picked. Warriors can only increase Strenght and health for example.

If you're a Rogue you only need to pump up dexterity as that determines how hard and how many times you hit.  HP should only be pumped to about 92 MAX, to enable you to wear the fancy armour later in the game.  But for now raise your DEX every chance you get.

Edit: for spelling.

If you cba with trading you can always just sell everything you pick up to an npc , just drag it over there stuff & they buy it from you, you'll get more from scamming noobs, but its better than just destroying things.
