New trailer

gameplay 3 (http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=4707&type=mov)

Looks good not sure if you guys have discussed the actual gameplay but you have medics and lot of other classes who work together. There is also a rank structure so its very similar to enemy territory but i feel this game will strengthen our clans team building skills especially in our 1337 clan mach teams ;)

The smoke trail on that rocket is unrealistic. ;)

As long as the choppers fly like sh1t still, and planes are impossible, then that looks fantastic.

Oh and as long as LAN VIII ISNT on or around the 27th of October then I'm looking forward to it.

There may or may not be a hidden hint as to me being unavailable for the next LAN as well, if you pick my missus' birthday 'again'.

I agree that the helicopter should definately fly like a tank, so much fun watching everyone pile in to a chopper, take off and perform a loop the loop into the ground  :lmfao:  :lmfao:  :lmfao:

I'll be sorely peeved if any old sod can fly it. Took me ages to master the helicopter.

Minimum specifications for 16 players - Processor: 1.0 GHz and Memory: 384 MB RAM

Recommended specifications for 64 players - Processor: Intel Pentium IV or Athlon XP 3.0 GHz and Memory: 1 GB RAM

Bandwidth: 2.5 Mbit. Recomended: 5 Mbit

Ripped from the thread linked to above:

QuoteMeanwhile, here are some specifications for system requirements that I've seen; these are taken from the Total BF2 site.

"Here you can find the Battlefield 2 system requirements given to us by DICE:

Target Minimum Specification Machine:
1.7 Ghz CPU
512 Megabytes of RAM
128 MB video card (must support 1.4 shaders)

Recommended Specification Machine:
2.66 Ghz CPU
1024 Megabytes of RAM
256 MB video card"

Don't know how accurate it is but probably fairly close.

I hope my computer will be fine with it after I receive some extra RAM. I've now got 256, gonna recieve 512 more. BTW, you can add RAM right? 512+256= 768? :dummy:

BTW: I heard something about a demo of BF2 coming out with one map on it next week. Playable against bots but also online with a minimum amount of time on the maps (16 players in total).

Is it a Centrino Chipset with a Pentium M chip? If so that 1.4 processer will perform well beyond its clock speed so 1.9Ghz might be a realistic estimate of its capabilities.

QuoteMinimum Requirements
Windows XP (does not work on Windows 2000/Me)
Pentium IV 1.7GHz (Pentium IV 2GHz or Athlon XP recommended)
512 MB RAM (1GB RAM recommended)
16x DVD-ROM drive
128 MB Graphics card
DirectX 9.0b compatible sound card

My little xp2400 will be just barely able to cough up enough power for it then but I might need to replace my fx5600  I have no idea what my soundcard is in directx terms but I'm hoping the Audigy2 badge on it will help!

Gah, I wasn't planning on any serious upgrades (other than my monitor) at the moment!

Awesome is all I can say. Maybe a bit more fast paced than I would like - I prefer the slow sneaky stuff - but great stuff anyway.

NB those with nVidia cards, the demo has new drivers (77.30) which are much newer than the ones on nVidias site and are recommended to be installed. I did and they solve several graphical glitches. I can play 1280*960 quite smoothly with full AF and 2x AA - havent tried 4x AA yet , just wanted to play the demo :)

Had my first wee go last night. There I was, thinking that since I'd gotten the hang of tanks and jeeps I'd try a helicopter.

I was upside-down before I was over the edge of the carrier, and thence to a speedy watery grave, with the comm ranting at me about not flying if you don't know how :(

Looking forward to trying it with you chaps though, maybe next weekend I'll be free at a UK-safe hour. :)

Well I for one can't wait until the full version comes out on the 24th.  If the demo's anything to go by, the potential for proper tactical play is huge - and it'll play just as well when having some mindless fun to unwind.

I'm slowly getting the hang of the helicopters.  I can takeoff, fly, and land (of a fashion), but actually shooting anything other than the ground is still beyond me for the moment.  I'd definitely recommend a joystick for the task.  The keyboard/mouse is just too fiddly, and makes it far too easy to over-correct.

Funniest moment for me on the server yesterday, was watching patiently in Commander mode as Oldie went in to cap a flag.  Then raining down an artillery barrage on his bonce when he was about halfway through.  Being called a git made it all worthwhile  :roflmao:

NB: don't try and sneak up on BlueBall to plant C4 on his tank when you're a foot soldier - you'll lose...

twas fun indeed.

I think that to make the game play in a "dMw" style we might need to look at limiting the use of tanks/vehicles - early days yet and hard to say but although they are great fun they don't particulalrly lend themselves to Tactical BattleField (TBF) IMHO of course ;)

US special ops all the way for me, the gun is immense! single shot heaven.

I can fly the planes pretty good, loopy-de-loops and barrel roles are fun, just need to learn how to shoot and fly at the same time.

Well that seems like a bit of a waste of the game to me. Vehicles are an integral part of the gameplay. Take that away and I think you'll find people losing interest pretty quickly.

I agree that maybe when there are only two or three aside then vehicles are a bit redundant, but with full teams they are essential for maximum tactical play.

Hi guys. I haven't got the game (yet). But you might want to have a look here: http://www.tacticalgamer.com/ (http://www.tacticalgamer.com/forumdisplay.php?f=182). They are also sorting out some TBF2

Anybody up for a BF2 night Sunday. may be we could pw the server and see if we can add some tsc rules to see what we can do.

one suggestion would be to have the respawn rate as slow as possible

Well that seems like a bit of a waste of the game to me. Vehicles are an integral part of the gameplay. Take that away and I think you'll find people losing interest pretty quickly.

I agree that maybe when there are only two or three aside then vehicles are a bit redundant, but with full teams they are essential for maximum tactical play.
[post=86136]Quoted post[/post]
[/b]
I find with 2 or 3 per side that vehicles are very important to get you between flags fast. That or you come to an agreement not to capture any flags and have some air-combat practice or tank wars... I recall the days of bf1942 and attempting to have a knife round to deide rounds - not terribly compatable with the game I have to say, knife rounds! :roflmao:

Vehicles are just another part of the game. Vital to get you to the action quickly (though with the seargent being a mobile spawn point there are other options!) and oh so satisfying to take out when you're infantry. You just have to learn not to shoot at everything that moves, then as long as you can hide from the passing vehicle you're free to be a cunning infantryman

Not true.  Benny and I were able to communicate on VoiceComms last night.  And I think Hippy had his working as well.

Go in to the Options and do the test.  You may need to click the MIC gain on, and fiddle with the levels a bit, but it's definitely working.

Edit: Hang on - I've just had a thought.  Benny and I were in the same squad last night, so maybe VoiceComms is purely between squad members, and the Commander can broadcast to all?

Here’s a nice tip guys:
Throw a support-crate near the enemy so that they think their commander dropped it.
Then ask on the exact same spot an artillery bombardement.

If I'm correct: The commander can drop support crates if someone needs ammo and so. He can also give artillery commands.
I got the tip from a site I check alot. Not sure if it's allready possible in the demo version but the fella who put it up played the official game at a BF2-test.
But aslong as my computer isn't good enough for it, I can't help out.

Pretty much what DuVeL said above.

When a map round begins, anyone on a side can apply to be the Commander by clicking Apply on the Squad screen.  If more than one person applies, the highest ranking gets the position, in the event of a tie it is put to the vote.

As Commander you can view the entire map through the Commander screen (Caps Lock), zooming in to a 50m ish overhead elevation where you can see individual soldiers.  You can issue commands to squads: attack here, defend there, etc.  You can perform a Radar scan of the entire map which briefly shows the position of all enemy units to the Commander only.  You can perform an artillery barrage on any point on the map.  You can position an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) which will show the location of any enemy units in its range to all members on the team.  Finally you can perform Supply Crate drops, which will repair/rearm/heal anything that stands next to it.

A good Commander will be watching the map, listening for requests from ground troops for artillery, supplies, UAVs and responding accordingly.  They should also be watching where the enemy is concentrating, and directing their squads accordingly.

This all works in the Demo, and it isn't easy...

I think we have enough Dead Men with the demo to go with this. It will give us a chance to experiment with the squads/leaders/commanders chain of command.

I'm up for spending a few hours in flight school. may be when the full game is out we should find the map with the most aircraft in and get all the wannabe pilots and flight crew on the server.
I would like to spend a bit of time on bombing run practise and it would be good to have someone watch me to help with my bomb release timing.

You get more accuracy if you release your bombs in a slight dive rather than in straight and level flight. It doesn't have to be steep, 5 degrees is enough.

This game is brilliant. The potential for organised teamwork is immense.

Now all we need is a server full o' Dead Men to take advantage of it.
[post=86121]Quoted post[/post]
[/b]

I agree, but...

We really need a full server, otherwise it's just all out tank/helicopter/whatnot wars. This would be great if we could utilise the full potential of squad based tactics. 2-3 squads of 6 people on each side with APC's for support, not as personal armour, commanders and air support. As it is, there's no real usage of the different player roles and we're far too few to form proper squads on a map this size.

It sure has potential, but we probably need to schedule games in advance to ensure sufficient numbers.

This rant, of course, has nothing to do with my relative inability to pilot any of the vehicles in this game...

Indeed, this was definitely closer to what it should be like. Tonight it actually made sense selecting your kit for the squad and consequently there was more talk on the voicecom. I still have to learn how to use the radio properly, but intel was passed on and teamwork was everywhere. Just imagine what it would be like with 32v32, full scale map with airsupport and all... :dribble:

I still can't quite get to grips with the keys...

I'm like oldie, play cs with the arrow keys, and it's taking a bit of getting used to.

last night I sprayed beer all over the k/board...which doesn't help...I spent the afternoon in t'garden with wd40 and a cotton bud...but it still ain't right  t, and all the no's are sticky

I find that i can't strafe & move forwards at 45 degrees..it's either 1 or t'other

any way...for a laff ive ordered the bf2 keyboard..so we'll see if i improve when it comes.

had some fun in me tank tonight...developed some strategies against other tanks...

don't know if i need to ditch the fx 5600 or not...it usually takes 2 or 3 goes to connect, and it keeps minimising on load up, but i eventually get on...

is this a graphics card thing or just a demo thing?

Speaking with some experience here, if you take the keyboard apart and remove the electronics you can then wash all the keys in the sink to get the beer off and then carefully wipe down all the plastic sheets (assuming you have the common type of buttons) maknig sure the contacts are clean (alcohol would be better than wd40 for this! ...though water will do) Dry it as much as you can yourself (keys often take ages to dry out) and then leave it near a radiator (not so near that it melts... ;) ) overnight. My keyboard's been through 2 or 3 washes to get it up to speed again before.

p.s. on the bf2 site they specify you should have "at least" an fx5700 so I'd imagine it's your gfx card protesting, though if it's working well enough to play give it a pat on the back!

if you type the word "dead" in the text search at the top of the server browser page you will see our sever appear as one of about 10 servers. It is called Dead Men Walking.

look forward to seeing you there :)

Is there a way of keeping your key bindings from the demo version when you uninstall it and install the full version?

They are stored in a file in "C:\Documents and Settings\\My Documents\Battlefield 2 Demo\Profiles" if I remember correctly. There is a file called controls.con in one of the profile folders (prob 0001)

Its a text file so just copy it :)

In fact having just installed my copy of BF2 all you need to do is to copy all of the files from the demo folder ("C:\Documents and Settings\\My Documents\Battlefield 2 Demo\Profiles) to the full game folder ("C:\Documents and Settings\\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles) and all of your account details and settings will be carried across.

Worked a treat :D

BTW noCD patches are avail from usual sources if you don't want to risk scratching your valuable disks.

The account server may be busy. there was something about this in the readme that came with the demo (but I cant see it in the readme with the full game). Can someone with the demo still installed check this?

Edit: I think it was something to do with the fact that the account had been created so you should log in or do a rescue account or something. Sorry cant remember properly :(

Knew I'd seen this somewhere:

Account Issues: The first time you go to start multiplayer in BF2, you will have to create an online account. However you may find that once you enter all the details and click the Create Account button, it may sit at the 'Creating Account' stage forever. If that's the case, simply exit the screen, restart BF2 and click the 'Retrieve Account' button using the same details - hopefully your new account will be loaded up. Further note that at the start of the game, if you keep pressing any keys to skip the intro movies, these keystrokes will be recorded in your Password box, thus when you click the Login button it will say you have an incorrect password. Either don't press any keys during startup, use the skip intro movies tweak in this guide, or clear the password box and re-enter the correct password each time you start the game just to be safe.

Should we not move the BF2 section of the forum to the Dead men teams section. so people playing on the server can more easily find it
