Post by: 0ni0n on January 28, 2005, 10:44:16 PM
Hi i went on server tonight and ping kept stuttering and spiking to 120 or so every 5 seconds at first i thought it was the server so i tried a different one which was the same   . I then started a single player condtiion zero and close my internet connection but the game still stuttered so i guess it was nothing to to with connection.

i have opened windows task manager and when i am doing nothing with as far as i know nothing running there is a process called system - system at about 5 sec intervals this is going up to 19 % no matter whats running anyone know whats this is and do other peoples pcs do this ? i dont recall seeing it before. i have dont virus check any help appreciated

Thats all the system stuff (cdrom drives, usb drivers, usb devices, absolutely tons of diffeent things. Could be any one of them driving the CPu usage up. Go to sysinternals website and grab a copy of process explorer (task manager on speed)  to see if it gives any more info.

When you said you don't run anti-virus, do you mean you don't have an anti-virus checker or that you haven't got it set to do scheduled scans? It sounds suspiciously like the symptoms you get when a scan is running, but as reverting to an earlier version cured this it may not be the case, unless there was a virusscan update meantime that started scheduled scans. Either that or you had a trojan. Do you have a firewall?

sorry Snooks thats my bad english and spelling 'i have dont virus check any help appreciated ' should be 'i don't have a virus, i've checked. Any help appreciated '

i did actually run a virus check which came up with nothing,i also use a firewall which showed no outgoing connection which shouldn't  be there. :eyebrow:
