It seems a little unlikely that both headsets you had suffered from exactly the same fault.  I would therefore check your sound system - maybe by plugging your old cans back into the system.  If they work fine then you know you can can the plantronics cans as they say  :D

Hmmmmmmmm maybe there is nothing wrong with the Plantronics set. If you are listening to a mono signal through a headset set to receive stereo, then the headset might treat the mono signal as one half of a two channel stereo signal and, pump it all to one ear-piece. It would still be expecting the second channel and be ready to send that to the other ear-piece. Of course as the signal was mono there would be no second signal and so the second ear-piece would remain silent.

This problem might be due to a switch on the headset being set in the wrong position or more likely a software setting in your sound card configuration or headphone setup. It's a very long longshot, but would explain why the original headphones work but neither of the new ones do.

I don't know what sound card you have or what model of Plantronics headset so I can't give you anything more specific in the way of help.

It should just plug in and go ? Check in your advanced audio properties that you are set to desktop stereo speakers or stereo headphones.

Are they plugged directly into the back of your PC or do they share a connection with your external speakers through a switch?

long shot. On the connector of the working headset you have 2 black bands, is the new one exactly the same or does it have one?

Not sure where I'm going with this, but check it anyway...

Hmmmmmm :?:

So to make the headset work you have to unplug the external speakers from the back of your PC and plug the heatset in and likewise the mic?

Some headsets have a small unit  that the headset and external speakers connect into, that in turn connects into the soundcard. The unit has a switch that selects between speakers and headset, so you do not have to keep plugging and unplugging.  Do you have the switch unit or do you plug and unplug? I assume you don't have the switch?

There was no software that came with the headset?

The original headset worked, the first Plantronics headset is broke and so is the second. Both only play through one earpiece?

The original headset still works?

Sheepy,

Don't know if this will help but I had similar problems when I got my Plantronics Headset....had to re-install twice before the bugger would work!!

I cannot get PerSono to work. How do I completely uninstall PerSono â€" including all drivers â€" and reinstall fresh?

1.       Disconnect and re-connect your USB headset.  Wait 15 seconds for your computer to recognize the USB connection.  If you headset still does not function correctly with PerSono proceed with reinstall.

2.       Right-click on the Plantronics icon in the lower right-hand corner of the desktop (the Windows System Tray).

3.       Choose Unload this Plantronics system tray icon.

4.       Insert the PerSono CD in your computer.

5.       After the introduction program opens, click Skip Intro and click Install/Uninstall to remove the PerSono software.

6.       Complete the Uninstall program.

7.       Unplug the PerSono headset.

8.       In the Uninstall Headset folder on the PerSono CD, double-click the rhs or rhs.exe file.

9.       Click OK to uninstall headset drivers.

10.   Click Install/Uninstall again and reinstall PerSono software.

11.   Follow all install instructions carefully. If necessary refer to the Windows Installation Guide.

If the headset still does not work, contact PerSono technical support. The phone number is printed on the FAQ card and online under Technical Assistance at //www.plantronics.com/digital.

Does PerSono work with Windows NT?
No. The headset works with a Windows 98SE (Second Edition), Millennium (ME) or 2000 (NT 5.0) system.

Can I use external speakers at the same time that I use my headset?
You can use your PC speakers while using the Headset microphone but you cannot use both your speakers and headphones at the same time.

To switch between headphones and speakers,  Plug your speakers into your computer's line-out jack (this may be located on a sound card). If your speakers are USB, use a different USB port and select either the headset or the speakers as the Preferred Device in the Multimedia control panel.

Why isn't any sound coming out of my headphones?
 1.       Check that the Volume is not turned all the way down on the PerSono application Headphone tab. Adjust the slider to halfway and check for sound.

2.       Check that Speaker Volume is not muted under Windows Speaker settings. Double-click on the Windows speaker icon in the System Tray to check this. Also make sure that the volume on all other devices is at least set to halfway.

3.       Check the tightness of your connection. Disconnect then Reconnect your headphone USB connection to your computer. Wait 15 seconds for your computer to recognize the USB connection.

If unsuccessful in getting your headset to function correctly, you may not have the correct drivers installed. You must be running Windows 98SE (Second Edition) or higher. Insert your original PerSono CD in your computer. After the CD opens automatically, choose the Uninstall program. Then, reinstall PerSono to make sure you are installing the correct drivers.

Hope some of it may help....good luck
