As you can see from the title I ran the software and my system has been borked since then
So I am hoping someone can help me or point me in the right direction .......
My MSN will not connect to my hotmail account for my emails... and I cannot log in or browse on ebay !!!!...in both cases the loading bar gets to 4/5 bars then times out ..."cannot find server"
I have spoke to my ISP and they advised that both programmes used the .NET system to operate ......and that this must be borked somehow !!??
I have restored the suspect files from Search and Destroy, but this has made no difference whatsoever.
I was also advised to update my windows system to see if that cured it ....did do ....done ...and NO ...still same .. :(
I have confirmed all the settings in my internet options tab and even reset them back to default ..but to no avail..
I am running XP Pro SP1 and would like to resolve this issue before updating to SP2 ..someone please save my sanity (no pun intended ..MAD_ness!))
I have also been trying to post this on my borked machine ....and had the same error ...the loading bars and timing out .....
went straight in on the lads pc !!!!
HEEEELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:( :( :( :(
Tried Installing SP2?
find it hard to believe that Search and Destroy would do this .....
OB tried to help earlier ...but still NG....
will SP2 fix ...or is it another vain attempt ????
I suppose you've tried a restore?
Have you re-installed .NET?
Link here (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=262d25e3-f589-4842-8157-034d1e7cf3a3&DisplayLang=en) if you need to get it from MS site (23Mb though)
yeh BB that was the help OB tried earlier today ..... :(
and tried d/ling firefox as well ....that also failed .....
not looking good is it ?
:(
Thnx anyway
try uninstalling IE and reinstalling it? It may be corrupt in some way and foobed ur security/activeX settings, this can also stop MSN connecting.
format and re-install!!!
Can you trace to any of the sites?
Check to see that there are not any proxy settings in IE (tools, options, connections, lan settings)
Has your hosts file been sabotaged? (windows/system32/drivers/etc) open it with notepad. Mine contains only the following lines:
Quote# Copyright © 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
127.0.0.1 localhost
Are you getting an IP?
Are you getting DNS server entries?
Can you use DNS?
Anything in the event viewer?
Does my bum look big in this?
Ask for more info, can't be TANGO'd to type it if you already know.

always a good idea
Start, Run then type cmd to bring up a command prompt. Then type ipconfig /all
That should bring up all your connection info. Ip addy, dns server addresses etc etc.
This will tell you if you are getting out. Also try pinging //www.deadmen.co.uk what sort of responses do you get?
yeh GFK loads a stuff came up... all seemed ok ..
pinged deadmen ..
average 15ms ....
so that seems ok also
That indeed seems ok. Can you get to the deadmen homepage or does that time out? try also things like msn.co.uk, microsft.com etc etc.
Thanks for all the pointers guys ....
but whilst messing about with stuff I turned my Tiny firewall off ...and hey presto ..access to all the sites was restored :D
and even now, if I want to access them I have to turn it off....strange !
...I have no idea why this happened ...
but am very appreciative of all the help trying to sort this ... ;)
cheers guys ................... 8)
would like to know how/why it happened though !!
