It's basically dumb and thinks it's audience is dumb. Why did they invade? Who knows? Why did they invade in the cack-handed way they did? Who knows? Why did they want to harvest humans? Who knows? Why did they kill so many. Who knows? I

It could have been Gladiator but ended up being Troy. I'd expect better from Speilberg. But as soon as I heard they had yanked it forward to modern times and across the Altantic to America, I began to worry it was going to be another ID4 cop out.

It's not a bad film. In fact it has some really good moments and a wonderful gritty style. But Speilberg and Cruise were coasting and ultimately the film was disappointing. Just like Troy it could have been so much more than it was.

Excellent visuals and an overall brilliant experience. yes the ending could be improved but much better than some on Speilberg's recent ventures such as Taken. I hope he strives to new levels with his new flashier visuals.

Awful, awful, film.  Like Smilo alludes to - plot holes you can drive a bus through.   Did anyone actually check the script before they decided to film it? :angry2:

Save yourself £6 and get out in the sun.

went to see this few days ago, thought it was v good.
Looking beyond the special effects (which were xlnt) to the characters and how crappy a Dad TC was.  The girl was xlnt as she usually is.

Who gives a toss why the aliens came, who gives a toss how TC managed to dodge every deatch-ray/flying vehicle/collapsing building (A-team style).

Save yourself wasting the time watching this and do something more enjoyable...like cutting the lawn with a pair of scissors.

Agreed, ending seemed a bit disappointing but the original film was similar with the way the Martians died (even more poxy as it happened whilst inside a church)

Take that back now  :)   George Pal's version was one of my favourite films as a kid.  Truly great, and I can remember it vividly to this day  :)   I loved that ending when the Martian crashes through the stained glass window  :)

Yup, along with the classic version of The Time Machine is was one of my favourite films  as a kid. I just didn't like what I saw as a connection between the Martians dying and the church (no real connection, bu my mind worked in strange ways then and sometimes now)

Good effects.

The film warmed up well... Then dragged out alittle..

Then a shocker ending.

Arguably entertaining. :)

I don't understand how it can be a shocker ending?  The book has only been available and celebrated for over a hundred years........ <_<
