- a list of officially supported games
- organised competitions

Can we get a games and competitions list soon please!? Then I'll have an idea whether or not I need to hunt down some new games...and if I do need some new games I don't have long to find them!

HL1, CS-1.6
CS-CZ
HL2, CS-Source
battlefield 1942, desert combat
Dawn of War

what else?
A software list (e.g. teamspeak?) would also be nice if there's anything we should be downloading prior to pitching up!

One thing missing from my lists is a good car racing game, either something fun like midtown madness 2 or motocross madness 2 (tag was excellent :D ), or smething serious with "realism" and the like? Dunno if these sorts of games get much playing time, but I think something relatively simple and arcadey would be nice so we don't all spend 3 hours trying not to crash into the walls... :)

I suspect that with the delay of a certain game we will rely on CS. CZ and DoD.  I have yet to put my thinking hat on fully in this respect, but other suggestions are welcome.

Bring the diles along and we can install at LAN and post some links to the files needed please BB.  Also we need links to the server files as we will need to build a server for it before the LAN unless it runs (like UT) a server from a player's own machine.

Which puts UT2004 on the list of games.

Indeed its free and i hope you like the look and feel of the interface. Sadako i know loved Wolfenstein but this expansion sees new classes and a rank structure so you are rewarded for your gameplay! I think a dmw server may also be a consideration for the admins but this may need to be quite large as the bigger games are more popular. There are also various mods and patches. I am currently using the 2.6 version and it has fixed many of the previous bugs. If this was to be an official lan game we would have to decide on wht patch we would use ;)

A few people with patch files and the like would be a bonus... Someone (ahem) always forgets a driver disk or fails to patch up to the most current version...

In a break with tradition I'd like to comment on-topic:

Don't forget to patch your games:

CS
CZ
DoD
UT2k4
Red Orchestra

See you at the LAN.

aye! bf1942 and the desert combat final mod for it in particular are excellent for teamwork in lans!

no rts games? or are they just a side aspect for those who drop out of the competitions   I have Dawn of War which was pretty fun as a "quick" team-based rts at the last [dg] LAN (think 3v3 wargames with strategic capture points). Basic learning curve wasn't too tough. 3 games in and you've got some idea of how to crush the opposition. Still rts always take up an inordinate amount of time.

Are people likely to play any car-racing games or should I save the space in my bag and leave the wheel/pedals at home?

I have CS 1.6 and Source, CZ and DOD.  Should I go out and buy any of the other games mentioned before the LAN or will I be OK with what I've got?

Mu guess is you'll be fine as you are, there's always a game of CS/CZ going on somewhere in the room so you'll never be alone.  Coupled with the fact that there may be someone willing to lend out a game to others at the LAN you shouldn't have need to spend money unless you really want to buy the game yourself.

This post may be considered whiney but was not intended.

Nah, looked OK to me. Although I had to look twice at "there's always a game of CS/CZ going on somewhere in the room"

What's the final state of play concerning bf1942/Desert combat patches wise? I've got DC 0.7 full install, DC final client(whatever that is) bf patch v1.45.18 and v1[1]6.19

I will bring my driving kit after all if only 'cos I can't go too long without a blast. So I'll have a LFS S2 demo server up on occasions. You can try out my DFP, 3 pedal FREX set and FREX shifter if you like.  8)
Oh and TrackIR
