OK, this thread will provide a packing list so that you remember to bring everything you should bring to the LAN along with a guide as to how to ensure your steam is up to date. If you have something to add to the list then please post it here and I will edit it into the main list.
IMPORTANT:
Do this ON THURSDAY NIGHT ABOUT 10.00 PM. IF YOU DO THIS FRIDAY MORNING YOU MIGHT PICK UP A STEAM UPDATE THAT NONE OF THE REST OF US OR THE LAN SERVER WILL HAVE. THEN YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CONNECT TO THE LAN GAME!!!!
Thursday 10.00pm
1. Connect to the Internet
2. Start Steam
3. **CRUCIAL** If you DO have the 'do not save account details on this computer' checked then enter your password and UNCHECK THE BOX. If you don't you'll loose your password details from the login screen and will not be able to play CS at the LAN **CRUCIAL**
4. Log onto Steam
5. Click 'Exit' on the Steam menu and quit Steam
6. Disconnect from the Internet
7. Start Steam and when the dialog box appears click 'offline mode'
8. Make sure Steam starts and you can fire up CS
9. Exit Steam again
10. Try restarting Steam again.
11. Run a complete Anti-virus scan.
12. Go to bed
13. Wake up
14. Go to the LAN
In a nutshell just make sure you can connect to Steam without being asked for your password. If you are asked to type in your password you're not going to be able to play at the LAN

There is a licensed bar 10 yards from the gaming room.
There is a high street with shops, cash points etc 20 yards from the gaming room.
No ADSL at the LAN this time?
I think it's just a case of not relying on it. They might not let use it, the chap that knows the login details might not be there or maybe it will go down.
What about a list of necessary games, apart from CS, CZ and DOD?

ADSL will be available at the LAN. Allegedly. As mentioned above, it's easier not to rely on it.

BUMP - read the list, do the scan!
See everyone at the LAN tomorrow!

erm, could someone bring a few spare mousemats please :) I tend to use the desk at home and am not even sure I have a mat any more. Think I did a lot of gaming on a hardback book of some sort at my last lan
Mousemat? You've got a table where you can put your stuff on (they had tablecloths on the tables last time but they were removed because everyone thought they were anoying). Just don't spill any beer around your computer and you'll be fine. ;) 8)
Funnily enough I've gotta stop off at PC world and get a mousemat too, JAS took 1 look at the one I brought to the last LAN and went 'URGH !!', i've kinda had it a while and it's had many a thing spilt on it. :eyebrow:
