Title: New Job Possibilty
Post by: Jamoe on April 14, 2005, 09:54:34 AM
Hey all, just wanted some advice.

A few weeks ago I applied for a new Job over a job website (Jobserve). The job was for a web developer (xhtml/css/javascript etc, c25k) Sadly I had registered with the wrong email (.com instead of .co.uk) and I never received an email about arranging an interveiw (yes I kicked myself very hard).

Obviously I heard no news so I rang the company up where I found all this out, I also found out that the job had already gone. But was offered an interveiw anyway so I went along for the experiance.

Interveiw went really well, it turned out that they only got 7 CVs and offered 2 interviews (one of which was me). The chap also told me they are rewriting all there software from scratch (scalability issues with there current system) and they will probably need a junior java developer very soon. They've kept my details and will (I hope) contact me soon.

Ok, so thats my story. But its been 9 days (yes im impatient), and the question is how long should I wait befor getting in touch with them. I was thinking maybe a month, the interveiwer seemed interested in employing me, repeatedly saying that I would fit in etc.

The job is in lincoln (which is very rare) and im desperate to work for a IT company that would pay a decent wage and give me some career prospects. Dont want my desperation to blow it. :S

:)

My advice was be appear keen but not pushy. Most people are busy and if you phone too often then they will get fed up with you. However, you should nott let them forget you either.

Are you in a position to phone the guy up? Tell him you appreciate that he is busy and want to keep the call short. Ask if he is able to give you any timescales on when the position may come up as you felt that he was keen and you feel equally enthusiastic about working for them.

Keen but not pushy ;)
