Do a system restore point first, these things can hose your system or work wonders on it - you never know which!
Read up on compatibility issues etc before you install them.

The NVIDIA websote still offer 41.09:

I still use 30.82 (the WHQL certified ones). If I install the 41.09 or the 42.10 drivers then 1 time out of 3 the computer will lock up about 5 seconds after POST. Additionally, the video refresh rate fixes available do not work with 42.10 drivers (and the built in refresh fix seems to be inoperative) so you get stuffed to 60Hz refresh in CS but I get 100Hz using the 30.82 drivers.
PS For WinXP MS offer a 30.87 download which are WHQL certified as well.
I'm no expert but I'm begibnning to wonder if Nvidia's idea of a single driver for all cards and all OS's isn't a completely crap idea.
I've discovered a small community on the Net dedicated to discussing which version driver is best for which set-up (although Nvidia claim you should use the most upto date ones regardless of set up) and how to recover your system when Nvidia do indeed tear it to bits.
There are driver removing apps, guides, and long rants about Nvidia being satan and whatever. I don't ever remember seeing this for ATI or Soundblaster etc.
Anyway I'm sticking with my nice safe 29.42 drivers ta
:)

Trust me, they're out there, you just haven't found them yet.....

...and remember, most of the people posting in forums have problems. The ones that don't have problems don't post. Therefore, it is easy to form the perception that the item (whatever it is) is absolutely no good. Believe me, I have heard people slating things that I have had no problems with. But, to be fair, I have slated things that others have no problems with. Thats PCs for you - great fun :)
I just slate everything :D
Nvidia are still responsible for both my XP 'format and re-installs' though ....so I still hate them
I'm an inveterate 'must have the latest drivers' and 'let's turn this doohickey up a tad more' cove. So I've tried all the Detonators and for one reason or another keep returning to 30.82 combined with nv refresh rate fix (no longer available. Call me) and get no troubles and fps of 85 in cs.
That's all. :)

It's all a load of rubbish these nVidia drivers. I put the latest on my PC yesterday and it worked fine for IL2 flight Sim. But when I ran CS today, my ftps was 50 - 70 !!! The xhair on my AK took ages to settle and it was a bit jerky. With 30.82 drivers my fps hardly went below 90fps and ran sweet as you like.
After several crashes and a couple of reboots later. I got the damn thinks of there and put 30.82 back on. fps back up to near 100 again :D .
I shoulda listened to you Doorman  . So what does the nv refresh rate fix do mate? I've never (or been aware of) had(ving) it on my pc????
Win Xp limits directx to a 60hz refresh for reasons best known to MS. The refresh rate fix is a way to override this. However, Nvidia changed the way the newer drivers records the refresh rates it will use so the software for doing the overriding no longer works.
30.82 rocks!!!
I believe it's an evil plot by Microsoft to break Open GL so we all will have to use Direct3D
