Title: source engine or my pc?

why is it that mostly all other new games run at full wack on my pc IE.
Far Cry
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory...top game btw
and so on.
But source is still ....erm not great?

I have a barton amd mobile running at 2.2ghz
1 gig of ram
9800 pro card
on an Abit nf7s mobo

TBH I don't think it is that great om mine either :(

P4 2.8GHz with 256Mb 6800GT

Have you done all the usual tweaks? "cl_smooth 0" and edit the Source icon in the steam play games window to have "-console -heapsize 256000" Make the heapsize no more than half of your RAM.

Source is pap. I run all those games you mentioned smooth as can be on this comp, which is almost exactly the same as your specs (a little more cpu speed, a little less RAM). You can add Doom3 to the list too, which has pretty demanding graphics. I'm lucky if I can muster 30fps in Source.

mmm, I think source runs okay on my (slower-than-yours) system. Far-cry runs at a similar speed/quality I think.

Runs smooth but make sure you cl_smooth 0" as this helps so much.
