Title: CPU Coolers
Post by: Gh0st Face Killah on January 07, 2003, 08:28:16 AM
As discusssed last night on MH I am putting together a new PC, I was just wondering what peoples preferences on cpu coolers were. I have found the following but was wondering what the other overclockers amongst us used.

http://www.crazypc.com/Merchant2/merchant....duct_Code=50082 (http://www.crazypc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=120199&Product_Code=50082)

It will shift 75.7 CFM at 4800 rpm which seems more than enough cooling when combined with a case with 3/4 fans in it.

What do ya think?[/url]

I edited your post so the url hyperlink works.

You are right in that the fan will shift quite a lot of air - 75cfm is massive, in fact possibly more than you need from a single fan.  The bit that you may wish to consider is this:

48 dB at 4800 rpm

That is one hell of a lot of noise......... you probably won't be able to hear the AWM on most maps with that fan

My suggestion is go for something with a bigger diameter that allows lower rpm, quiter operation and not quite as much cfm.  I personally use the Zalman Flower and highly recommend it.  It has all of the above things and is very quiet in operation, even when you crank the fan up to maximum rpm.

Round cables (rather than ribbons) also takes another few degrees off the inside temperature fo your case.  Again, I run them.

Hope this helps.

Will check out yours and others before making a final choice.

Thanks TL

I use Zalman too. it is excellent. I have it turned to minimum RPM (1500), you can barely hear it and CPU never goes above 51 even during a prolonged gaming session :-)

....we demand pictures of the installation process, a write up on its effectiveness and in return we'll send you a bucket and mop  :D

Seriously though, I would like to hear how it goes....

/me is very seriously tempted to try a compressor cooling system at some point in the frighteningly near future.........water systems can only cool to ambient, so the fridge might be something to try to REALLY crank the clock up on  :P

Wonder if the missus would notice the extra fridge appearing........ and it would be somewhere to keep my beer between rounds
