I agree with Armitage's post elsewhere, this has great potential, but will require some effort on our part to get it going.
I seem to be one of the few that will take the commander postition, and Oldie seems one of the few that responds and requests for orders / supplies etc.
The commander role can make everything a lot easier for the ground troops, a UAV can make all the difference to capturing/defending a flag.
Also I think we need to step up the comms a little, get a lilttle more organised in terms of not just running out of spawn to a helicopter and grabbing bases / shooting tanks.
I've not seen it done yet, but a team of medic/engineer and general shooter, could be airlifted over a flag, dropped in, chopper goes off to circle and then picks up. Medic doing the obvious, engineer getting the chopper back in service if it takes a few ground shots.
So to shorted my tirade, more comms, a little more organisation at the beginneing of the round - there is no real hurry to get out of spawn, pick some different classes...
I almost always pick engineer or support unless there are only a couple of players a side. Once everyone gets used to the in game comms it will probably be easier, the wierd having to click on your command is a bit odd.
Once everyone has got the hang of vehicles, we should start playing smaller maps, so then the vehicles are smaller and have less of an effect - i.e. no gunships/fewer tanks etc
Yes there should be more than one squad, but having two one man squads is a little pointless. It all comes back to needing more players on the server at a time IMHO.
Having a fast response squad of a medic and an engineer and maybe even a support class in a buggy or jeep would be a good plan, if we have enough people for example.
Im started off as sniper or special forces. But now find medic a more satisfying role.
dMw Medic reporting :P
from playing the demo I found I quite enjoyed playing medic or engineer - due to my crap aim it gave me an opotunity to actually be usefull. I'll be able to put it to the test in full shortly as my copies just arrived.
Im not having a dig or anything but can we please learn the game first? It has only been out a few days....let people get used to all the aspects of it before making people choose what role to play.
Also everyone will want to learn the vehicles first as it is an essential part of the game so removing them or only playing smaller maps without them at this stage may ruin the fun factor (for me definetely).
Again not having a dig at anyone but lets get used to the game and then start with making sure we have all roles and using tactics.
:D :D :D :D :D
(smilies to show im a nice guy ;))
i've tried learning to fly the plain but am absolutely terrible. The helicopter on the other hand is a doddle.
I haven't been online yet so haven't been able to see the other weapons either. Hopefully my connection will be up sooner rather than later :-(
I have to say though that from what i have experienced the success of the game will depend on how well we play as a team, frag hunting will get borring incredibly quickly.
I would like to see the server passworded for now. The reason is as Smite stated, we need to learn the game to understand how we want to play it. When heaps of pubbers join in it just degrades and we then stop experimenting with the game and it feels like a UT2004 fragfest all over again.

just a friendly one :D
Is there a way of delaying the helicopter spawn?
Last night me, Armi & Lib had some fun, but when we've learnt the game it may prove better for gameplay to delay the spawn times of heli's and tanks...
just a thought :P
The question we have to ask ourselves is that, Is this game one we can take forward and play in a TCS, non UT way. pw'ing the server, I don't see working unless we get a lot more dmw members playing. 5v5 won't cut the mustard on this game. but as I said in my post 10 dmw's V 10 public fraggers should be great fun. we are never going to have boundaries on this game, the way we did in cs but if we form small squads with a good command structure it should be great fun.
And I hope we are not going to make people play classes they don't want to. but if we just organise the squads on what people want to play, itshould work,. no point being an assault/special ops class if you are going to be in a tank all game. be support/medic or engineer.
getting people to play commander is going to be key. but it should be more rewarding if the squads do what they are asked. I had a go this afternoon on a public. thankless task. everyone ignored my direction. so I spent my time placing uav's and artillery.

I quite enjoy being commander and have no problem with being one or being asked to be one.
It's quite good fun actually bossing you lot around :narnar:

The trouble is with the server open I can't get on :ranting:
It's 20/20 and only 3 of those are dMw people. :ranting:
CZ still won't let me join so can't play that :ranting:
I'm gonna have to go and speak to the wife now :(
B"not happy"B
Agreed,
At the moment we are still getting the feel of the game and myself, Armitage and Blunt are having good dogfights and starting to build up some tactics, hiding in the choppers and pouncing.
You should try it, one chopper with pilot and gunner, the other with just a pilot. It certainly livens things up the poor guy on his own! (ME! :ranting: )
If the choppers and planes aren't there we still try and stick together in whatever action we are taking.
Once we've all got used to the weapons and different classes we should fire up a passworded server without autobalancing on and all join a single side and practice tactics first.
Then bring on the bots and we can get wiped out! :D
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Major tip:-
Keep your squad leader alive at all costs, then if you die you can spawn back to his location and carry on the fight or bring a much needed class into action. Especially if all your flags are down.
Other tip:-
In case you didn't know because you haven't read the booklet. Sometimes selecting a weapon for a second time will change its firing rate/type.
Its annoying when you find these things out by accident in a firefight! :(
Aye, I wasn't suggesting we all stick to a role, more let's stop legging it to the choppers for a fly...
oh and have a smilie....oh...no maybe not.
girls.
well I don't mind not legging it...but what about the fella attacking us in the other chopper?
Someone needs to give air cover...
armi & me did some stirling work defending ground troops tonight...
we took out snipers that were shooting Rizzy, took a few flags, defended loads...not to mention the heli's we shot
but about 10 o'clock i went for a fag during map change....and came back to find Toxteth playing....he hasn't played before...I expect that explains a few things Armi?
But it all comes down to numbers...too few and it's a frag fest for the fliers...or really boring for the ground troops
I guess it's v. early days yet....we have to learn the ropes...and there's lots of ropes!
afaik if you are chopper/tank crew, you should choose mech...or maybe medic for tank...but deffo mech for chops
I can't fly to save me life ( I'm still learning), but me and Armi (or Lib) are pretty damn good as chopper squad, and given the choice, on most maps, that's what I'd choose.
If the chopper stays as a 2 man squad(for voice comms) and the commander uses good comms to the squads, I can see the chopper being as valuable to us lot as it is in real life.
Absolutely, I agree that if you are 'squading' and using the chopper which you are. I think you've hit it there with a chopper squad, a plane squad and maybe a ground squad, cover then move in with the ground lot.
Have you tryed mowing grass or people allready with the helicopter or isn't that possible?

You can squash em though!
