Title: My BF2 experience
Post by: FBG on June 30, 2005, 11:46:57 AM
Well i really dont know what to say......grief.

Is anyone else finding the time taking to get into a game a touch longer than a game lasts? because i am. Firstly the music actually fully plays through TWICE! before i get into the game and then when i do finally get into a game (i.e. last night) i find that on a 4 player game the opposition are in a helicopter and have captured all the bases (the tickets at this point are about 100+) so the round ends and i cant spawn....GREAT!

Put it this way i was F!*%~ Pi@~%$*

So, apart from having to try and work out why my machine runs like a dog can we use a little bit of common sence and at least leave one opposition base alone until the towards the end of the game. Might give those of us who are having issue time to enjoy a game.

Its really poor when on the server selection page! like i have to click and wait 30secs to ensure i dont crash.

I was the aforementioned pilot of the chopper you're referring to, and have to say this in our defence.  The object of that particular map was for the USMC to assault all MEC bases until they hold them all.  This, Norm and myself did, taking to the chopper (cause I need the practice) to cap the final two flags.  There were only two of us, but we played as a squad.

The MEC team had no uncapturable bases from which to spawn on this map so defence was of the essence.  The pubber on your team didn't seem to be doing anything much in the way of this.  In fact, I think he was trying to snipe rather than attempt to win back the flags we were capping.

Although I understand your frustration, I don't see how we could be blamed for purely trying to achieve the map objective for our team.  Complete your objectives, play as a team, aren't these the kind of things we've been banging on about for ages in TCS?

I'm sorry to hear about your PC woes mate.  But if it's any consolation, the menu section and map loading times in this game are a dog for everyone.

The 512Mb of memory won't be helping you. The readme suggests 1gb and even better with 2 Gb. I have 1 Gb and still have long waits for stuff to load from disk

You are jesting me, 2GB to run a game? I just bought it and will be installing it tonight, I have a 3.2GHz Athlon XP, 1GB or RAM and a Radeon 9800 Pro. Will that work?  :(

Albert - I run it just fine on a 2.4GHz maching w/ 512Mb and a 9800pro. It's kind of slow to load, but not too bad. You should be fine.

---

As for server selection being touchy, ASE supported the demo. I've not yet checked out whether it works with the full game, but if it doesn't yet it shouldn't be too long (they knocked together support for the demo within a couple of days of it coming out).

Easily 'Bert. I run BF2 absolutely fine on my 1.9Ghz Celeron mobile, 1gb RAM, Radeon X700 laptop.

It seems to me the graphical problems are getting a lot of unecessay hype, simply because people aren't prepared to drop a resolution or so. I always runs my games at 800 x 600, or occasionally 1024 x 780 and am fine with BF2.

FBG look at the tweaks and download the 'dummy' movies, gets rid of the startup woes.

Also startup with the "Battlefield 2" Icon rather than the "Play BF2 Online Now!" one. It starts a lot quicker. (i think that it's trying to gain access to the EA BF2 server)

Dont worry Cadaver my intention wasn't to suggest you were at fault. It was a suggestion that if the tickets are still hugely high and the game hasnt' been in play long then it might be worth while holding back on finishing the map. Especially when the player numbers are quite low. THere aint much chance of getting a decent game in if you cant spawn anywhere.

I'm assuming its the caching to disk & memory thats the major issues. As long as the game has just started it doesn't take to long. Its the verifying bit that takes donkeys years.
