not sure what you all think, but would it be possibly to set the server to kick people off, if they don't join a squad. I know tactical gamer have there server set that way. it may just encourage a bit more team play. even if people just create a single person squad. at lest it would still give the commander a chance to send them orders.
I think that's a bit harsh. For people finding their feet, getting kicked when they have no idea why is a bit strong. How about asking them to joins squads, trying to help people through.
The best comparison I can think of is in WoW. I started playing a long time after everyone else, and if they hadn't been around to help / guide I would have given up long before I kinda have (just run out of free time is the real reason)
We can't, in my opinion, enforce rules that will prejudice against new players. The BF2 server has pulled in some new faces and more than a few new regulars on the server, it would be a shame to push them off because they haven't got round to understanding the finer mechanics of the game.
I played as commander for a bit last night - don't think I killed any of my team but hey who keeps score ;)
There were a heap of french chappies in one squad who wouldn't take any of the orders I was issuing (OK they were rubbish orders but they were orders - this game just keeps getting more realistic)
I just sent a message and said please follow commanders orders and it worked so I guess we carry on with our tried and trusted dMw style of education of the masses - people who insist on being muppets can still be kicked but lets make the effort to educate first <- My 2p :)
I've played a bit on the TG servers, and whilst enjoyable it can be a bit too regimented at times. TBH I'm impressed Apophis et al have got their servers running so 'involved' so soon after the game's release, but their full-on military gaming style won't be everyone's cup of tea. Maybe if we change our server message to request everyone join a squad, and see how that goes for the moment?
I've had some great games on our BF2 server. The team play is most definitely coming. What I think would enhance it that bit more is maybe have a period where we only play the 16-man maps. We don't seem to have more than 8 people a side at the moment, and it would allow us to focus a bit more on the ground-based squad play, whilst still having fun and finding our feet.
Also, anything that denies Armitage his bloody choppa would be worthwhile :narnar:.

Adding 'please join a squad' to the server text while loading would be an excellent start, if you ask me. Perhaps also formulate a slight encrouagement to use microphones?

would also remind some of us to join squads when we join the server - I often forget until I've been playing for a few minutes...not that anyone leading the team/squads has noticed either mind you :) More commands would be nice (whether via the squad leader screens or via the voice comms (comms probably easier for a leader in the heat of battle :) )

[not quite off-topic]
I remember my first ever game of CS. I found a newbie server, was doing decently for a little while so I had lots of money, then thought "oh, what's this AWM thingy - it's so expensive it must be great" and got kicked the moment I tried to use it. Then I rejoined, did the same thing again but got banned the second time. There were no "no awps allowed" warnings on the server welcome message thingy to let me know what I was doing wrong - it was enough to make me learn to play DOD instead. I only came back to give CS another try a couple of months later.
So I guess the moral of this story is to make sure you tell people if you're going to kick them, and why.
