Title: Tank MG Gunner 101
Post by: Ranger on July 25, 2005, 09:29:37 AM
[Apologies - this is a rant after a few bad games. You know how it is!]

Cut to the chase...

Q. Which way should your tank MG gunner be facing?

A. NOT the same direction as you - and most of the time to the rear!

Getting 'C4'ed' is frustrating enough as a 'tanky' - but it's bloody annoying when you have a tank crew-member on the MG!

When I play tank crewman - I invairiably have my MG facing the opposite way to the main gun...

This doubles the 'eyes' you have - but also covers the tanks main blind/weak spot - it's 'ass'.

My MG is almost constantly rotating - giving special attension to the rear and roof tops...I do not casually join in 'plinking' at a target that my main gunner has covered (what the hell use is that?).

Gggggrrrrrrrrrr!

Nuff said...Rant over!

:)

That MG is almost a sure kill, despite only armed with my M16. I quickly find cover and take him out on single shot basis. He normally never manages to see me in time, even though I just crouch behind something. Strange, since the view is quite good. IMHO the tank driver is more likely to kill me.

Note to tank drivers with gunners on top - if the gunner is firing, don't spin around too much, makes it very difficult for him to fire straight.

Yeah, I have the 'duck' key set on my Belkin Nostromo n52 Speed Pad - and am continually bobbing up and down to make myself a harder target...

When under small arms fire I duck down until I can be sure of the direction of the fire, then bob up quickly and turn and burst - I usually spot the sniper at this point, and with luck can duck and get him on the second go!

...Even more annoying/funny -

I spotted a group of enemy behind a fence - my main gunner couldn't get them as the alley was too narrow for him to turn his gun...

So I jumped out - fearing we would get C4'ed - and shot them. Was VERY pleased with myself!

...Went to get back in the tank and my gunner/driver reversed over me!

:(

I must admit that I have done a few TKs when I drive over someone. For instance in Karkand, where advancement with tank/infantry combined works well, I have been forced to reverse to avoid AT-shots and have then driven over my fellow mates. I hate when that happens

However, never move closely behind a tank, or even too close to the belts when you're on the side. Edit: At least be ready to jump for it!
