GTA V / Not so aerial photography challenge...
April 16, 2016, 10:15:14 AM
Just had a thought for a challenge, only needs two people. One person flies a Cessna plane. The other person sits in the back. Everyone is locked to first person.

The goal is to take some great aerial photos. The catch is, they have to look like they were taken from the ground. You are not allowed to land.

HILARITY ENSUES.

I worked it out when I made the 8 bit fleet graphic.

Phew.

The Shipyard / Our 8-bit fleet
February 02, 2016, 01:34:36 PM
So there's been some great posts on Reddit recently showing off the 8-bit ships illustrations people have been doing.  So I chopped up the most complete ship roster I could find and rearranged it to be our fleet so far.  We're missing some ships on here - no Endeavor, crucible or some Hull varients, for example - but it's still a lesson on how to abandon all moderation in spending habits.

This is going to be one very well equipped org... I worked out the cost of this lot and added it to the pilots lounge.

And here's mine for good measure :D

I hope it looks good parked!  We can have barbecues in there if we can't fly it.  Maybe convert it into a novelty hotel :D

I'm super excited about the pretty unique approach to multiplayer this presents.  I can't wait to get a full crew going.  I know this ship pretty well and there's a large amount not covered in this tour.

Racing Sims / Anyone still playing iRacing?
April 29, 2015, 01:59:44 PM
I thought I'd post this here as I'm not sure it would get seen in the dormant iRacing forum - does anyone still play this?  I'm enjoying it a lot and was wondering if I'm the only DMW member still there?

Elite: Dangerous / Something I made is in actual space
January 08, 2015, 01:01:45 PM
So a few months ago, I made some LEGO astronauts for a customer.  Yesterday, I saw this:

Yep.  That's my work.  IN ACTUAL SPACE.  I'm absurdly happy about this.

The Shipyard / Gladiator in the hangar
December 10, 2014, 10:59:31 PM
For those who own a Gladiator, it's now in the Hangar.  This thing is seriously bad ass.

I can't wait to find out if this will fit on the Idris.  If there are any videos on youtube yet, get your ass on there and have a look.  It reminds me of a tank, in a lot of ways.

The Shipyard / Multi crew ship systems
December 06, 2014, 08:44:48 AM
So, the new letter from the chairman fleshed out some of the multi crew gameplay. What do you think?

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/14354-Letter-From-The-Chairman-Multi-Crew-Ship-Systems

I like the "three ship type" approach - single seater gets a standard HUD, multicrew gets a flexible HUD that can work for one player or several, capital gets far more granular multi player only HUD.

EDIT: Stupid autocorrect ruined the title and stupid Tapatalk ruined my ability to change it.

DMW Pilots Lounge / What would your loadout be?
November 23, 2014, 11:50:46 AM
Given that the Idris is going to be more of an Org resource than private party boat, what's your opinion on the loadout for the hangar deck?  It will be able to hold at least four hornets, according to Erin at F42 (PLEASE don't share that info outside this subforum, it was told to the Idris Owners' Club when we delivered their gifts recently).

I currently have:

3 x Super Hornets
1 x Hornet Tracker

I do also have an M50 and 350R, plus an Avenger.  However, I plan to use those for other things, so not for the Idris hangar.  They could be drafted in though.

My question is, are Super Hornets actually the best things to have in there?  Should I melt them and spam the deck with M50s, for example?  How about regular hornets, with the slight speed advantage over the SH?  Should it be a mixture of different ships to make sure we have the rock / paper / scissors dynamic covered?

Now's the week to decide, and I thought I'd give you guys a say - seeing as in reality you'll probably be flying the thing more than I will (I have a busy job and a young daughter!).

DMW Pilots Lounge / Javelin for sale next week?
November 20, 2014, 07:25:10 PM
Ben made a very suspicious "no comment" to the question of whether the Javelin would come up for sale next week.

Is it worth me trying to get one, or will we struggle to crew it? Is the Idris enough? The collector in me wants it, but I do wonder how fun it will be in reality.

The Idris would be melted, of course.

The Shipyard / Gladius and Redeemer this weekend
October 31, 2014, 09:56:05 PM
So, Gladius is already in people's hangar after the patch - so I'm guessing that's the first hangar sale.

The second appears to be the Redeemer, based on this (reposted from Reddit):

Was really hoping to see the Retaliator.

I'm not sure if this needs to be in off-topic or not... anyway, I made my own LEGO Kerbals ;)

Sandi posted this on her Facebook.  It ended up on reddit and it's been doing the rounds on the RSI boards, but just in case you've not seen it, go here.

People keep saying it's a Cutlass, but I can't find an official source.  All I know is, if that's a Cutlass, imagine what the Reclaimer will look like

DMW Pilots Lounge / So, about that new Idris...
September 29, 2014, 09:46:55 AM
Howdy, people!

Firstly, thanks for being so welcoming.  You seem like a really great group and I appreciate that expanding it to include more strangers is a risk for the dynamic.  I wouldn't have joined up unless I thought I'd fit in, but I guess time will tell!

Anyway, the long and short of it is that I have an Idris-P and I'm keen to share it.  This thread is here to clarify how I feel it can fit in with you guys, plus what I'm willing to use it for etc.  The main vibe should be this though - I'm incredibly excited that I might have found a group who fits my own approach and I might actually get to fly this beast with your help!

My Idris is called the "Indiana", after my daughter.

IMPORTANT BACKGROUND

Obviously this is privately owned, so it's very different to having an Idris owned by the org.  It follows me, so it might not always be available.  It also has a partial crew already - my own friends have signed on to play it with me regardless of what org I'm with.  They're spread out all over the world though, so they won't be enough to crew it on their own or even at all, most days.  They're all good people though.  I'm also coming from another org, Tabula Stellarum.  Leaving them was tough as they're also nice, but ultimately they're too inactive and spread out across far too many timezones.  Even so, I imagine I will remain friends with them and they'll be popping in from time to time to help me on my Idris.  They are a completely neutral exploration org, so shouldn't conflict.

It also has a First Officer, who will be flying it occasionally in non-UK timezones.

WHERE IT FITS IN WITH DMW

All that being said, I'll ultimately be doing whatever means it's flying.  I want it to be available for DMW as much as possible.  What will probably happen is this:

- To a large extent, it will be treated as an Org resource.  I'll keep it semi-democratic; we'll decide between us where it will do the most good, but I can veto it if I'd much rather be doing something else.  Ideally, It'll be flying into the unknown as part of an exploration fleet ;)  We can decide this ahead of time if it will help.

- When I'm not online, I'd like to be able to allow others to command it and do pretty much whatever the org wants.  This depends on the tools we're given by CIG, though.  If there's a way to make it work, I'll make it work.  It has LTI, so if it gets destroyed by the org that's fine so long as the cost of upgrades is covered.  If you hit a goldmine without me, please consider me part of the officer crew and cut me in fairly!  Pretend I was in the bathroom the whole time or something.

- If and when I'm able to organise its non-DMW crew into a single play session, we'll fly it independently, paying tax to DMW as normal.  You will all be welcome to join in if there's space (there will be some).  We may or may not be flying on DMW tasks in those sessions (which will probably be rare).

That about covers it.  Ask me questions here and I'll add useful answers to this post.  I'm really excited about this!
