The missus needs a gaming laptop, ocUK would have been my place to go to, however Brexit happens...  She specifically wants a laptop, and we agreed to disagree about her choice. :sideways:
Unfortunately, local shops are a total rip off, and choices are extremely limited.

Are there any other reputable online shops in the EU which have good prices and products?

Elite: Dangerous / Returning to the game?
July 27, 2017, 03:32:36 PM
Is dMw still actively playing E:D?  I'm thinking about giving it another shot.

No idea where I am on the map, and still in a Cobra MK3.

Is it worth returning to?

Android & Chrome Devices / One Plus 5

Anyone watched the live announcement earlier? What do you guys think about it?

Specs look beastly. The only thing which I think is lacking is water and dust resistance/proof. Would have also preferred a 4000mah battery instead of 3300 but that 30min dash charge makes up for it I guess.

I ordered the phone (midnight black 8GB ram and 128GB storage) immediately after and grabbed the car dash charge too. The missus did the same thing as her opo needed the upgrade...

For anyone interested, I have a referral link giving you 20euro credit on accessories, which gives me some points which can be redeemed for shirts and the usual tidbits.

Shipping was free, and the code for the early purchase is clearerphotos. Some countries are already sold out. Normal sales are supposed to launch on the 27th.

Now I have to wait for Rhinoshield.io to release a crash guard bumper before using it..

Legion seems interesting, the story sounds like a continuation of Warcraft 3 and frankly, I always liked demon hunters.

So, what has changed in WoW since Burning Crusade?  For some specific reasons, I had to stop playing back when Gruul was extremely hard and SoG was doing Karazhan.

I have tried Google, but frankly the information I'm finding was written back in 2014.

Can anyone help?

The Center and Scorched Earth / Building QoL mod
July 26, 2016, 04:23:24 PM
I've found a quality of life improvement mod to building, which solves quite a bit of problems with the current Ark building nonsense.

Is it possible to add it to our server?

Technology Section / Benchmark questions
July 20, 2016, 11:33:48 AM
I noticed that my 1080 memory clock rate is not going beyond 5,400MHz, whilst it's supposed to go up to 10,800MHz.  5,400x2 = 10,8000 Coincidence or is there something going on there?

GPU clock was reaching the basic clock of 1771MHz as advertised. The card did not boost to 1911MHz, as perhaps there was no need to?

Ran a benchmark via OCCT, shader complexity 7.  I'm not sure the card was even stressed at all, as the fans didn't even switch on.  GPU temp was stable at 54 degrees throughout a 10 min test.

Can someone shed some light?

Technology Section / RAM speed / timings
July 15, 2016, 09:18:54 AM
RAM speeds/timings are confusing.

What is the real difference between 2400MHz CAS 15-15-15-35 and 3200MHz CAS 16-16-16-35 ?

Will the 3200MHz perform better than the 2400, is there a considerable difference or are we talking 1-2 frames, and a couple of seconds faster in other tasks?

That is if a 2400 rated mobo will actually be able to support those speeds in the first place.

I have been suffering from keybinding loss every bloody time I exit the game.  I finally got fed up of it, and started messing around with files.

From what I've figured out, the game does not care which bindings you customise, and loads the default file anyway (There are multiple binding files).  The solution is to edit the default binding file, and use ; to comment out a binding, or change the key/s to your liking.  Obviously, do not comment keys which you need.

Default file: \steamapps\common\ARK\ShooterGame\Config\DefaultInput.ini

Other binding files which the game ignores: C:\SteamGames\steamapps\common\ARK\ShooterGame\Saved\Config\  (There are 3 folders here, each having a DefaultInput.ini

Enjoy.

Seriously though ... / Summer Tyres
June 09, 2016, 02:01:28 PM
I need new tyres.  There's a winter tyre thread, but no summer tyre thread.

Considering the climate over here, one can say that it's practically always summer for tyre ratings as the normal low average is around 13C during the day and around 7C ish during the night.  Freak weather is something else, lowest I have seen it was -0.4C a year ago which was unheard of before.  No snow whatsoever, with random sized ice balls (hail?) a couple of times during our short lived winter.

I need help with brands, and sizes.  Basically, I'm a noob with car stuff.  I turn the car on and drive, and until a couple of weeks ago, that was the extent of my knowledge.

Most of our roads are rubbish, so safety is what I'm looking for.  Potholes, bumps, and mirror finish tarmac is the norm.  Most of the tarmac around here is substandard, and during summer the tar starts to liquefy and then hardens again.

Right, so I need shoes for an MR-S (MR2 Roadster (recent purchase, mid-engine rwd)).  She currently has Nankang, which I have been told are rubbish.  Previous owner changed the standard rims to 16"x7 (R16) throughout.

I don't mind having to change rims, and I don't mind spending money on good tyres, as long as it increases grip.
Is anyone capable of providing help?  I have been reading a lot of reviews on tyrereviews.co.uk but it sometimes depends on the car, and the tyre sizes. In short, this is martian talk for me.

OEM Sizes:
Front Wheels
Width 15″ x 6″
Offset = et45
PCD = 4 x 100
Weight = 14.6 lbs

Rear Wheels
Width 15″ x 6.5″
Offset = et45
PCD = 4 x 100
Weight = 15.2 lbs

Front Tyres: 185/55/15
Rear Tyres: 205/50/15

Seen the movie last night.  It's quite good, with lots of action scenes and easter eggs for those who follow the series/story.

Guild Wars 2 / GW2 - The now, and what's next
May 10, 2016, 10:55:47 AM
As with other games being cleaned up so that active games have more visibility, GW2 is also bound to go through the same process.

dMw interest in the game dwindled, with only 3-4 players coming online regularly.
Regrettably, Colin (the previous game director) made some very bad choices with regards to HoT, which resulted in the game adopting a very negative vibe.  He was recently sacked, and the president of Arenanet Mike O'Brien himself took over the job.  The patch from a couple of weeks ago shifted the direction of the game from negative to positive - Said patch was under the eye of MO, as he's called in short.

Whether this remains, I do not know.  I do hope so.

As far as GW2 activity and people playing, you'll find me and the missus playing on a near daily basis.  I work on a shift basis so gaming times are not the same as an 8-5 job, and we do go out.

GW2 in intrinsically different from other MMOs.  To compare, WoW is passive gameplay, where you just move around and click on endless buttons, whilst mitigation is an already applied mechanic.
On the other hand, GW2 is active gameplay, you have to constantly be aware of your positioning, the movements of your enemies, and reposition yourself so that you use the 10 skills (5 skills depend on the weapons equipped, 5 skills are selected from the class pool you are playing) you have available in the best possible way.  As for mitigation, the player is wholly responsible for that.  If you don't want to get damage, the player himself needs to dodge out of the way.
Admittedly, This sort of gameplay does not appeal to everyone.

As for people wanting challenging content.  Raiding is fun, and is hard.  To compare, the complexity of WoW vanilla raids pale in comparison.  GW2 raiding typically wipes should 1-2 people out of 10 die.  People in light armour tanking is also the norm for some fights.  Kreuz would be well suited.

So in the end, whether the GW2 section is on the front of the forum, or stacked in the boat that doesn't float, we'll be playing.
If you want to join, you're welcome.  If you want to learn, I'll teach you.  If not, perhaps you'll teach me some other game yourself.

Until then, :rockon:

Guild Wars 2 / March Black Lion Sales
March 07, 2016, 01:55:16 AM
Arenanet are making daily sales in the Black Lion store.

The most notable thing of it all is that they are bringing back some of the old stuff which was currently unavailable, for a short period of time.

Some of the discounted stuff is nice, whilst some is terrible offering no real value.  Search the item up on the wiki before buying stuff, as some descriptions can be a bit misleading.
