Oddly enough I do find that I can position the crosshair quite accurately with my thumb.

Imagine trying to move a tiny object exactly one millimetre for A to B. Would you use the movement of your whole hand, moving from the wrist or would you lock your hand on the table and edge the object forward just with the movement of a single finge pushing it forward. Sense seems to suggest that the very delicate movements that can be made with a single finger would be more accurate than those made by the whole hand.

However I have more money than brains and tehrefore want a boomslang and one of those super ice mat things. Where's the best shop

...and ph34r m3 4 I will b3 I337   ......at some point

QuoteLogitech MX500 is my recommendation.

The sensitivity number means different thing to different setups but as an example mine was set at 13 and I now use 7.5

Give it a go. It definately improved my kill-rate and makes long-range shots (using e.g. an AK) a lot easier to pull off.

I agree, I must throw my mouse around like mad as I have my sensitivity at 2.5. But I have a small mouse farm growing on my desk:
1) Boomie (from Ron (Doorman) fab bloke)
2) MS IntelliMouse Explorer 3 (cheapo OEM version for £23)
3) Logitech Dual Optical (most perfectly weighted mouse in mouseland)
4) El cheapo reliable Kensington Optical Elite (£10 and worth £50 IMHO, perfect for very low sensitivity setting as its so light)
5) Kensington Orbit Elite Trackball (Tried it for a week and couldn't hit a damned thing)

The logitech MX500 looks goo but have tou seen the MX750!!!! Very nice indeed.

With a very low sensitivity mouse setting you can aim very carefully from any distance although it won't work too well with ball mice as you soon run out of mat and have to lift it to get it centred. I use a high setting with the Boomie.

Mice are the most important part of gaming IMHO.

Forget the ICE mat Smiley !!!

Try a Func Surface 1030 //www.func.net

It is the best mat I've ever owned, for optical or ball mice and beats the everglide hands down. Never tried the ice mat but in a mat test on a gaming page I saw, the Func was miles ahead. It has a fip over, really smoothe one side and rougher on the other, and your optical mouse slides like its on these overpriced tape Skatez things, without the horrible gluey crap on the bottom after they wear out.

The only place worth getting a func surface is from the European dealer, in Germany, who are actually Everglide, but Everglide UK sell the same mat for £40, in Germany its £20 and worth every penny. It comes in a nice metal tin like the Boomie as well. Are they trying to tell us something?

That's all well and good but what's ultimatetly important is how sexy it sounds.

"Hey baby, wanna come back to my place and have a play with my Microsoft Optical Trackball Intellimouse?" just aint gonna get them gushing.

But asking if they "want to get their hands on your big BOOMslang Razorback?" will get you straight into their knicks lickety split

i can understand the logic behing this but would never be usefull to me since i  broke my thumb, i cant do small delecate movements, and it even starts hurting if i spend all day using the comp because i managed to break the joint, and now have very limited movement in it, and the bloody hospital refused to treat it as it wasnt a bigenough injury and "would heal fine with some light strapping", bollox did it.

From official boomslang site

QuoteIn a totally unexpected response to the new Mystify/Razer Boomslang 2500 at CeBIT expo in Hanover, Germany, European distributors have virtually cornered the market on the new 2500 DPI model inventory for at least two and perhaps three months. If everything goes as scheduled, the Mystify/Razer Boomslang 2500 will begin to appear on-line and at retailer shelves in Europe in late April.
It is quite unusual for Europe to have a high demand product before the rest of the world, however we will be doing our best to supply our loyal North American, Asian and Latin American fans and loyalists product as soon as humanly possible.
There may be some limited inventory available direct through Razerzone as early as May, but unfortunately we can't promise anything right now. Just know that we are working hard to come up with solutions for all of our great customers.
