the internet is huge and a small chance of winning 10k isn't worth using IE8. I'd use it if I was sure to get the 10k though.

Just shows how bad it is that they have to create incentives.

Well FF is a very good browser and IE is not a very good browser. So people will tend to give IE a bit of a kicking. It's to be expected.

What annoys me about Microsoft is not that they make a good or bad browser, but that they only seem able to promote their product by telling us that other browsers are rubbish

Most of what they say is completely false and borders on illegal. It's this sleazy and grubby marketing which, while so typical of Microsoft, makes me seriously question their products. How good can IE be if the only way they can market it is to lie and say "Well at least it's not as bad as the competition." Shame on them.

Oh and they seem to have altered the ten grand competition?

I think this is a little blinkered because FF and Google Chrome and the general attitude of MS competitors is 'upgrade to a better browser' that kind of thing.

I also disagree that IE is a poor browser and that FF is a better browser so perhaps your opionion is simply an opinion? lol going off topic here sorry but while I am not in love with MS and their tactics I'm also pragmatic when it comes to choosing and having opinions.

Allthough IE8 is a pretty good browser, I can't help but feel this 10 grand stunt is a bit cheesy.

I can only applaud any initiative that might cause people to remove IE6 from their pc's though

Yes it goes without saying that the best browser is the one you like to use the most. What I want from mine is the ability to customise it and build my own bespoke version. I want my own way of downloading stuff, my own advert blocker and script protection etc etc. I was 'extensibility'. Firefox has their vast addons library which works great. IE8 doesn't. So the choice for me is easy. If you browsing needs are different, which they very probably are, then you will want something else.

The thing that annoys me more (like Gaara :narnar:) is the fact that so many organisations still feel the need to use IE6 - terrible browser! :angry:

And I (along with millions of others) don't want a browser that tells me there might be an update to an addon (or other similar notice prior to actually loading the browser). I just want the damn thing to load, go on to the website I want to visit and get the information I want.

You Smilo are probably like me when I'm in website designing mode - at those times I use FF more than IE.

But for Jo Bloggs and Mr Smith IE is probably the better browser.
