if it doesn't work please post here the make/model of mobo and hard disk and I'll see what i can find out for you?

Sometimes a BIOS needs to be flashed with certain switches on the commandline to erase and reset the BIOS - just a thought.

The latest BIOS for this mobo should fix your problems.  See here for summary of the main problems and fixes in the latest bios.  What you describe is not fixed by the last release BIOS, but the beta does fix the problems (the beta being 18 months old and undeveloped after 20th Feb 2002).

I would try to reflash the latest Fad (Beta) BIOS found here.

When you have flashed the BIOS go into the set up menu in BIOS and reload defaults, this should help reset everything to the new BIOS.

reason its undeveloped passed there is that my mobo is over 2 years old now

Btw, you can stick a 1.3GHz Duron in that mobo instead of your 800MHz version, should cost about £30 from a retail outlet and a lot less from a computer fair.  Although if you can stretch a bit further your best bet is to get a mobo/cpu/ram upgrade kit and get into the Athlon range.......

Flashing a BIOS will *not* make you HDD go fubar, so rest assured that your data is safe.  OTOH a BIOS flash that crashes like a mofu will certainly produce an unbootable system, forcing an upgrade or replacement of said mobo.

Sheepeh - this typing is giving me arthritis - give me a call on my home number (it's in the member's section under the contacts topic) and I'll talk you through it m8.  I'll be on the PC until late, so call anytime before 10.00pm - after that and I'll not get a shag from the missus ;)
