Congrats steamyouve managed to bugger up my counter strike for the umteenth time!        
Ok any way ive tried all the usual stuff eg blob file logout delete etc reinstalling steam none of it works. when i log ointo a server just as it loads up into the game my screen goes 2 standby and u hav 2 restart i had the same problem with windows where it was tring to put the screen in to higher resolution, i fixed that from the reg but ive checked that and it says that its 800/600 and ive tried other resolutions to no avail. So i uninstalled everything to do with counterstrike i mean everything! and lo and behold i cant find my CS disk so ill either DL it from Kazaa or borrow my friends disk to load it on and put my Key on it as ive saved that and printed it. So no CS for me for at least a week till i get it all sorted touch wood.

I think ive justified in saying that steam is the biggist blunder in internet gaming since the sliced bread

Whats your windows res? As you might have either set that too high for your monitor. And maybe the cs in game res is too high for your monitor to view so it goes to standby...

Hi Grim, I had similar problems and for some reason, not apparent to me, lowering  colours from 32bit to 16 in display settings in Windows did the trick. This was only playing CS1.6 all other programmes and games including CS 1.5 all work on 32 bit colour.
