Le Rouge

Here.
I've posted about the series b4, but the new series is the last one, and the first episode just aired.
For those who have yet to see it - what are you waiting for?
"Even in a justified war, only one place there is for the dead; if someone loses - it\'s only you. Prime Ministers leave without a scratch - when everything ends they mourn the people; but I want to live on and mourn them"

Started to watch this series and it is as Le Rouge says very good. I have bought the two first seasons on DVD.

Aye, I've avidly watched series 1 through 4, and am now halfway through the 5th and final series.  For me, it's a close thing between this and The Sopranos as being the best TV shows ever made.

The Wire asks a lot of you as a viewer given the depth of story and the many characters, but the writing, acting, and inventiveness of the stories for me is without equal.  It's amazing how many times early on in a series small things happen which you don't pay attention to, only to have them become huge events later on in a series.  I also can't remember a show that was so brave in killing off major characters yet not losing any of the momentum because there are so many fascinating people left in the show.  The beginning of a series can be slow, but patience really does reward you here as by the time the pieces come together it's amazing to watch.

5 stars - grab a copy if and when you can.
If I wanted you to understand I would have explained it better

With apologies in advance for the thread necromancy:

I did not get to watch this the first time around, but recently saw it 'on demand' and just finished watching it.     Absolutely agree with the comments above, great series.

If you like tough, gritty dramas then this one is for you.  Surprisingly it produced a wider range of emotions in me than I expected, even making me feel sick at one point with where I thought one character & thus the storyline was heading.   Many characters morph from good to bad and back again, with that having nothing to do with the cycle of your 'like' & 'dislike' of the character.   Some brilliant portrayals from from some fantastic actors (many of whom are well known).

As Chimpboy said, if you liked Sopranos/Pulp Fiction/Godfather then you'll love this too.

Only negative for me was Sky's anamorphic work, with the first couple of series being squashed vertically to fit a wide screen.  It did result in some pretty comedic-looking walks though

Well worth the time invested, which for me was five whole series watched in two weeks. :getmecoat:

9.5/10 from me.

Disappointed!!
I saw this at the top of the thread list and thought they were making a sixth season :p

Then again, the show was written with five seasons in mind, all done and the red thread woven in before they started filming, so anything new there would pretty much just be a half-assed money-grabbing add-on move. It would be like making a seventh Star Wars movie or a second season of Prison Break.
