Problems with watching avi-files and all.

Morning fellas,
I'm trying to watch Dawn of the Dead and it's an avi-file but everytime I want to start it up my Windows Mediaplayer crashes. Any ideas what I could do? I've allready downloaded the latest version of Windows Mediaplayer.

download some codecs.

Otherwise i dunno, i don't use windows media player

Codecs?
Which player should/could I use?
