Hi guys, from another thread I had this from suicidal-monkey:
I compressed it quite a bit with divx5.something because the cameras compression codec isn't terribly efficient (was over 5Mb, now under 1, with similar picture but slightly tinnier audio).
What programs do you guys use for it?  :dummy:

VideoMach has some good features you may want to try out.

QuoteThe size of output file depends on the video codec, data rate, key frames and other factors. If you're saving to AVI click File => Save As => Video => Codec Settings and choose one of mpeg-4 based codecs like DivX, XviD, 3ivX or similar. You can also change codec's bit rate by clicking the Configure button. Lower the bit rate to produce smaller files. You can additionally squeeze the file by using MP3 codec for audio. Just switch to the audio tab and click Codec Settings button.

If you're saving to MPEG click File => Save As => Video => Codec Settings and modify the Average Data Rate / Maximum Data Rate values. To create smaller file with lower picture quality enter lower data rate. There is a limit below which VideoMach won't go and will reset the data rate to a higer value.

Virtualdub was my weapon of choice. I get most of my avi-editing software off've http://www.doom9.net/ which is primarily about ripping and compressing DVDs although general avi stuff is pretty well covered too 8)

I've got Virtualdub installed now. Could you give me some pointers how to compress the AVI file?

Thanks for a "normal" reply.

Well its normal for me :)

Virtual Dub refers to compressing as "Repacking". Look for that in the help file or on their website. It'll do what you want :)
