Now that we're getting into the best this and that:

What's your best book?

A top candidate of mine would be Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. Brilliant book(s), which I've read 4 times and about to read again one more time.

Well, actually anything by him is a hit with me...

But now he's dead and I won't ever get to read anything of his again  :byesad:

So, what's yours???

Uhm.. uhm... uhm... uhm... the best reading experience was probably years ago when I first discovered books for real and started to read Desmond Bagley's books. I just sucked them in. Looking back I can't chose.

I have been more into non-fiction the last few years and would therefore probably chose Anthony Beevors 'Berlin'. Being interested in WWII I already knew about the tragic situation for the civilians (a.o.) as Russia pushed Germany backwards, but still that book is so well written, and well argumented, that it simply was an awakening to read it. If you like WWII I would highly recommend it. I think the author is a briton btw. Stalingrad was good as well.

One author I like (I should have had in my selection) is a guy called Chuck Palahniuk...

You may think you don't know who this guy is UNTIL I tell you that this is the guy who wrote 'Fight Club'!

I am addicted to Chuck's work - but the interesting thing is that you don't actually ENJOY reading his stuff as such. Some of it is horrific, a lot of it is 'sick' and a good deal of it is explicit.

...I am just lisetning to his book 'Haunted' (I'm into audio books at the moment) and I actually had to stop listening to it as this one bit was so bad! LOL

You might wonder why I am recommending the work of someone who writes such distasteful stuff - well I can only say that his stories are compelling (like watching a car accident, or one of those video clip shows where you know something bad is going to happen to that guy scateboarding down a hill).

He looks at the nasty side of human nature, the bit that appeals to a not so nice part of us.

...Just thought I would mention it!

:)
