:(

Typical - first evening in a while I had a chance to have a real go on BF2 and what happens?

= EA has a login server down-time to get ready for the new 'Special Forces' expansion.

 :ranting:

LOL - ah well, there I was 8pm knocking about on the dMw server wondering where everyone else was (sulky turned up and so was a new guy with a funny name)...

But, apparently we were lucky to be able to login as others weren't - and when I left to join TG I then couldn't log-in! :(

Anyway - eventually got a game at about 11.45pm! Good one as well, on the TG server (Gulf of Oman). We brought the game back from a near MEC win! FAntastic...

I managed to practise my new chosen class - Assault - and did OKish. Still need some practise, and miss the DO-12 shotgun that I get on a ranked server as the AT unlock. The MP5 is a bit of a peashooter - but OK close-range.

Just a bit sorry I missed all you guys. Nice to see Sulky and Paddy online though.

Oh, oh! - PS!

I tried out Support - what a laugh - I couldn't hit anything with the MG unless I went prone. I sprayed this one guy with about 50 rounds - MISSED HIM! And he shot me!

 :roflmao:

I like playing Support class - i quite often spawn as that if I am SL then just try to stay alive and keep the guys supplied with ammo.

Norm

Supply is my chosen vocation, all the weapons are quite good if you stick with them, going prone has become second nature now.Unlock is awesome, chopper killer.

Ranger

I honestly don't know how you guys hit anything with the Support MG...

But you do - I know 'cause you've shot me before! LOL

:)

As you say, Norm, it's all just practise...And I reckon I'll get to grips with my new class in a week or so.

What I am doing is swapping between Assault and Engineer, it seems to be a terrific defensive combo if I can get it right. Prefer the MEC Engineer weapon (auto shotgun)...

The only thing that worries me is the Teacaking of our guys when I lay mines.

I have been practising on teh single player thing, Karkand playing MEC and you can really make an impact by laying mines at the choke point just before the Hotel flag...IF you can stay alive long enough...

And when the USMC eventually break through the initial choke point I then switch to Anti-tank to help beat them back.

(I also tried Medic, but that seems to have a greater learning curve.)

Fire very short bursts, it reduces the recoil and means you can keep on target more. If you practice you can use it as a sniper rifle and fire 1 round at a time - it's lethal like that

didnt have any probs last nite, found it a bit strange when you didnt join ranger and thought that you might have gone for a pee or something. Was an alright game on tg but the amount of aircraft is starting to ruin it for me, i like 1 plane and an attack chopper and a troop carrier per side,  not  so many that  i coulnt walk (yes Walk) from one side of the map to the other without getting raped by air craft  (rant over)

thats why i prefer playing on  smaller maps.

ps all this unlocks you r on about... iplay on dmw and tg which dont score so i havent gained any points for unlocks

ea should just unlock all

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

Yeah - it was weird. I got into dMw initially OK - but when I went to get into TG it wouldn't allow me - AND THEN when I tried to get back into dMw that wouldn't let me either.

Apparently everyone had different experiences last night depending what time they went on - EA were doing something to the login database.

The amount of air bombing was terrible at one point - I was killed on three spawns in succession at one point (spawn - bang! sawn- bang! spawn- bang! LOL)...

:)

It's not funny really - especially when you spend more time in the spawn process waiting than you do playing. But, I eventually got out of this cycle and had a decent game.

I don't want to get into another rant about the Stinger being far too underpowered for the jets (we need fixed Rapier/Avenger AA missle sites dotted around the map or mounted on the AA tank).

I just can't see the pleasure anyone gets out just flying around and bombing - the guy who came first in out game (Vixen?) had DOUBLE the points I did (I came forth) but spent the whole game in a jet!!! He did not take one flag, contribute one team support - he just circled and bombed, circled and bombed?

I know this is a moan - but I would at least like planes to actually have to land to re-arm and repair - and for this to take the same time as it takes for a tank to fully repair, rather than this instant regeneration that currently exists. AT least this would give the infantry a small window of opportunity to move about.

But - in the end - all this air bombing came to nothing as we got the map back and won (just!).

Slightly OT, but to try and de-moan your moan a bit (if that's possible, you big rantaholic you). ;)

Currently planes will only rearm fully on a single pass of the airfield.  The repair rate is as slow as a tank, if not slower.  A half-damaged jet will need roughly 4 - 6 passes over the repair station on its airfield before it's back to full strength again.  Reckon that probably gives ground forces ~2 minutes before it's back all shiny and new again.

Of course, with the jet respawn usually being 45 seconds or so, you can see why some players will not bother repairing and just fly until they explode.

LOL...You are correct...

But I tried to 'de-moan' because I didn't moan about it when it was happening - only today in retrospect!

To be honest it's like all our other moans - I don't notice this stuff at the time, but just get on with the game...

It's the next day when someone else mentions it, then I think; 'Ohhh yeah, that WAS a pain in the butt!'

I think with the aircraft you have to factor the time that they can get back into the action, loose a tank and you have to at least DRIVE all the way back to your objective. A jet can very quickly pass over ALL of the map in a few seconds looking for targets.

Try and lay down and right-click so you zoom in. That makes it abt 10 x more precise.

I will give that a go tonight ~ if anyone is on the dMw server!

I could do with finding a second class that I can play so I can change as required.
