Steve Jobs is an slimy scumbag in the same mold as Bill Gates and Steve Balmer. It's just a shame his microphone didn't electrocute him

I agree, but not completely. I find that Jobs is far worse. I find the fact that a marketing scheme the likes of "put a lower case "i" in front of the products name and make it at least twice as expensive as other products that do the exact same thing" was ever thought out rather offensive; and the fact that it's working so well for him rather sad.

Heh, I agree and yes, they are very good at creating interdependencies between their products. But that aside, I still enjoyed the speech. Very motivational :D

You really can't blame Steve Jobs for that. If people are prepared to pay the premium then it isnt his fault.

Smilo you're wacked..

Jobs has brought Apple back from the brink of chapter 11. Look at what he's done since he came back on board.. iMac, iPod, etc. etc... The guy's a genius. BB is right..

One can always discuss whether you like the gear they put out but they do sell, as mentioned above. And Smilo, you also dislike Pixar?

My problem with Apple is more about their concept of free open standards, contributing back into communities that they take ideas from, giving freedom and choice to their customers in how they choose to use and adapt Apple products to their individual needs etc etc blah blah blah. Steve Jobs and Bill Gates share much in common, non of it good. Plus as others have mentioned I dispair of the human race when it can be conned into buying something with an 'i' at the front. I might start selling ishit on the web? I'll make a million.

Pixar was great till it got swallowed up by Disney. Now watch it fall apart.

I'm not a fan of Apple much at all. I've owned their iPods and been disappointed and iTunes (which is actually my default media player due to it's pleasing visuals) is a vast memory hog, which does very little for that extreme useage.

But you can't fault a guy that took a technology that was nearly unheard of by the general public and turn it into an iPod which everyone and their gran can and does use.
Back in the day I had a 10gb Archos mp3 player and people couldn't decide if it was a cassette player or a mini-disk player, they just didn't understand digital music not on a shiny disk. There clearly wasn't a huge market for this technology but at the same time apple were launching their iPod.
Through a combination of timing and marketing their brand is a standard name for the mp3 player (Like Hoover is a name for Vacuum cleaning).
So while alot of people know that an iPod offers bad sound quality and volume, and an iMac although having less virusses offers little to gamers or people who enjoy software felxibility, one man has made a brand which has millions of "trendy*" people hooked.

Summary: Dislike the products, admire the way he handles the brand image.

*Trendy refers to Apples "devotees" which consists of a majority male 25-35 audience often sporting a beard and t-shirt combo, along side socks and sandles.
Juggling Hard Disks over concrete floors ends in tears 5% of the time.

As I happen to know a bit about acquisitions, Pixar was left almost completely alone after being bought. Out of respect for the creative part. So not sure Disney will **** that up. Think about rataouille?

smilodon

On the one hand Disney are control freaks who have made plenty of crappy films recently. All their real gems have come from Pixar. On the other hand as you say, are they so dumb as to not be aware of that very fact and just leave Pixar to make them a bucket of cash?

I wonder
