ah feckin hell. My dial up consists of 3 providers all of whom drop the line after anywhere between 10 minutes and 2 hours.

If someone could sort me a CD I'd gladly...ermm....be grateful. Alternatively, if anyone lives near Sheffield and has broadband I could drive over?

I know it's not this week, but I'd like to get it sorted sooner rather than later..

In fact, unless you want DoD, Team Fortess, Deathmatch Classic and all those other games, you only need the 400mb edition. I do have the 723 on my hd though, if sorting something out at the lan is not too late. I've got Nero so......

This months PCZONE has CS1.6 steam type thing (700mb) on the cover, got it, am trying it, hopefully I'll be happy.

Anything else I need to know?

have steam released the lan version yet?
if not were all playing 1.5 so i would'nt worry about it

Nope, Steam has not released the LAN version yet, so yes we will be playing 1.5 unless they do so before the LAN.

I had CS as of 3 months ago.

Now I have installed the 700mb steam crap from the CD (no internet conn) do I just install 1.5 or what, help meeeeee....step by step please...

Installing HL/CS again (if you ignored Oldie's warning about choosing the 'delete my HL/CS option when you installed steam) will *not* bollox up *anything*. it works perfectly happily in tandem with steam as the two are totally unconnected.

As long as you have your HL CD at the LAN then all of the necessary maps and patches will be there on the server. It takes about 10 minutes.
