There are a couple of notices pertaining to the forthcoming LAN you need to be made aware of:

  1.  Liability Waiver forms

The more observant of you will notice that this year we’ve published a disclaimer in the bookings thread. Unfortunately, due to today’s litigious society and the need to protect the Community (and the Admins) we also require people to physically sign a liability waiver/disclaimer when they arrive at the LAN. We’re hopeful that we can make this a one-off and not have to get people to sign each time they come to the LAN - only on the first visit.

As soon as we have the form we will publish it so you may read its contents prior to coming to the event. Please note that if you’re not willing to sign this bit of paper then you will not be admitted to the LAN.

We know it’s boring but we hope you can appreciate our standpoint on this.

  2.  LAN Auction

This will take place as usual on the Saturday afternoon. As previously, we auction items kindly donated by LAN attendees so please have a look around and see if there is anything you don’t want or need anymore which you would consider donating. As you know 100% of the proceeds from this goes into the Community Fund.

Be it old games, other software, hardware , books and manuals or indeed anything else..... all is welcomed so long as it’s legitimate, legal and you’re willing to donate it. If everyone brought along one item then we’d have a good selection to choose from.

  3. STEAK NIGHT

As usual, Steak Night will be on the Friday. This is a popular event and if Sheepy’s antics are anything to go by this year will be no exception.

We will be organising and drawing the teams for the various competitions as well as outlining the schedule for the weekend.

(Similar to last LAN we do need to have a significant attendance from people on the Friday night. I'm not going to reiterate the whole discussion we have preceding the last LAN but basically the hotel doesn't take bookings for the part of the restaurant that we use on the Friday and hence lose a lot of covers. Coupled with the fact we have subsidised room rates and FREE use of the £500 per day conference room we need to make the weekend viable for them as well as for us.)

    4. OFFICIAL GAMES LIST

Please note that the OFFICIAL Games for the LAN will be :

  Counterstrike:Source
  Call of Duty 4
  Left 4 Dead
  Live for Speed.

The competitions and weekend’s gaming will be based around these  core games. Please make sure you have them installed and working !

Thank you

The Admins

Perhaps we should post on here our willingness to sign the form so that no 'I didn't know we had to sign a waiver' comments will embarrassingly arise at the LAN?

By the way, I'm definitely coming now (I'll post in the other thread)
Start Folding and get yourself one of those nice new badge thingies, it\'s a good cause.  Check out the stats

That's great :lmfao:

I've not heard the term before - thanks for the heads-up.

I know it's crazy and it's sad and we've discussed this to the nth degree. No one is particularly plussed about having to do it.

I was renewing my employers' liability and public liability policies at the office and wondered about the LAN and asked my broker. Upshot is that if someone decided to sue then the Community would fold and the Admins are liable. Don't blame us, blame those damned ambulance chasers and people who think a positive career move is one where you sue someone for cash.

As the top man himself says:

Quote from: TeaLeafUnfortunately I think we're big enough to be a target. I hate the damn disclaimer, I think it is an insult and I hate the system that means some think it necessary, but then I'm the type of person that would never sue dMw if the **** hit the fan. Others however are not of that considerate and well-meaning type.

We can scrap it of course if you put up and decide you're willing to underwrite it? :flirty:.

Quote from: WikipediaJumping the shark[/B][/I] is a colloquialism coined by Jon Hein and used by TV critics and fans to denote that point in a TV show or movie series' history where the plot veers off into absurd story lines or out-of-the-ordinary characterizations, particularly for a show with falling ratings apparently becoming more desperate to draw viewers in. In the process of undergoing these changes, the TV or movie series loses its original appeal. Shows that have "jumped the shark" are typically deemed to have passed their peak.

Not a chance. We'll not see a constructive or helpful suggestion. Just ignorant vitriol, as expected.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

Do I get an ignorant vitriol badge then?  How much are they?

Hush hush. Jeez you guys are worse than my 5 year old twins.

I'm closing this thread now as exciting as this witty repartee is, it's strayed waaaaay off topic.

Just feel lucky it's not being held in a bouncy castle eh http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/kent/7360948.stm

Jabbs, in answer to your questions, I'll pm the LAN attendees and give them a heads up.
