A few times now I've been asked to change the map on L4D and have told people I can't as I'm not an admin and don't know the commands. Not that that's a problem in itself but last week it meant that Ghosty and friends left the server which was a shame.

Are you just changing maps via HLSW?

I just tried it and it works and I guess it'd be nice to action such requests if/when the L4D admins aren't online so can't action. I Just don't want to bugger anything up. Is that the best way?

Cheers

I just use HLSW. Nothing special, just make sure you pick the maps with vs in the title for versus..

If I'm on the server using the console I type the command

changelevel l4d_vs_

then use the down cursor until it autocompletes. Press return. It'll fail. Press the up arrow, home key and add "rcon" at the front.

From my perspective if you are an admin on any game I'm happy for you to change the l4d server pieces.

K thanks.

and if they want to switch to co-op from vs or vice versa - does just selecting a co-op map work do that?

In addition to changing the map you may also need to run the mp_gamemode command to change it from survival to coop or versus if you are changing the mode.

This is especially the case if you want to change it to survival mode.

I think you should run this before changing the map.
I do exactly what the little voices tell me to.

PC Specs:- Black box with some fans that go whirrr, a few lights, things inside that get warm, headphones, keyboard (a clicky one), mouse (with buttons and no squeak), disks (2-off SSD and HDD) and a monitor of sufficient proportions.
