... my head is still spinning, but I think I now know all the differences, thanks to this vid. Thought it might come in handy for all you non British people (and perhaps there are even parts in it that will even educate some of you Brits).

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

Luminance

This they don't teach us at school, not even during English classes (atleast not at havo). I had no idea there were/are that many countries and regions under the Crown.

I'm sure if you asked a lot of British people the difference between Holland, The Netherlands and Benelux they'd be equally stumped :)

They should force everyone to write it as BeNeLux (following best practice programming conventions with each component capitalised) to avoid confusion to the masses and give equal priority to all countries =).

The fact that Holland isn't a country but is region is a bit confusing, as our Media (during the world cup etc) have "Holland" listed as a nation not the Netherlands.

I assume the Dutch react much like the UK. If your're English you don't mind being called British but if you're Scottish you'd freak if someone called you English. Likewise if you're from South Holland you're OK with living in Holland, but if you're from 'Utrecht' (spelling... thank you Google Chrome auto-correct) you'd be annoyed at being told you came from the country of Holland.

The difference is always clear. It is called:-
  • The UK when there's a problem.
  • Great Britain when something goes right.
  • England or "The English" when they want someone to blame.

Nice vid, I knew some of these but this does make it more clear!

The Netherlands work quite the same, Holland, the Netherlands and the kingdom of the Netherlands.
