Quote from: Chaosphere;408587I was so interested in Oculus... especially after trying at LAN... but that price is just obscene.

That much money for 1080p, absolutely not.

It's the r&d you're paying. Any screen larger res would need too powerful a gfx card to get the 90Hz to avoid issues.

Resolution is 2160x1200 which is a pretty high res for 75-90fps (hence massive hw requirements for 90fps Vive)

You get 1080x1200 per eye compare to last gen DK2, which was 1920x1080 giving 810x1080 per eye with visible pixel gaps (or screen door effect).

The PlayStation VR / Gear VR is 1080p (same as last gen DK2) so with the hardware power it's limited to, you'll only see Wii style games on those platforms; nothing like Elite or Eve:Valkyrie - No Man's Sky maybe.

Oh so higher res...

Fair enough, would need to try it to see how it compares pixel-density wise.

Despite that, cost is still too high for me to jump in on early.

Totally agree on the costly part!

this is not a cheap accessory by any stretch and I would not recommend it for anyone who hasn't owned a VR headset before, or tried one over a long period.

If it isn't something you'll use daily or at least a few times a week, then you'd be throwing away good money.

Any games u recommend for vr?

I think there are multiple well implemented games on VR already, and more to come.

It's a personal thing. I find playing for longer period of time to be more tiring than 2D screen gaming, your mind is engaged or immersed a lot deeper so you have to take more breaks.

Elite is well established. Eve Valkyrie is pretty good. Lucky's Tale is well made. Ark is quite scary, in a good way. I need to try it out again but last time, even a tamed Beaver put the willies up me. A large Carno is terrifying.

This site came up but I haven't looked into it so much yet:

They haven't added support back for the retail Oculus yet. It needs a hack to push the runtime back to an earlier version which doesn't work so well with the CV1.
