Not sure if there is an easy solution to this one but here goes.

I've an MSI GTX 760 OC card with DVI-I and DVI-D outputs. I also have a Gigabyte Mobo with a single Intel HD4600 DVI-D output. When I shove my main monitor into any of the three outputs I get an image. However as soon as I add a second monitor to either of the remaining two outputs the main monitor goes blank and the new monitor grabs the screen. Ideally I'd like to run the main monitor from the GPU and the second monitor from the onboard GPU but right now I cannot work out how to get two monitors running. before i start tearing my hair out does anyone know of an issue with dual monitors on windows 8.1. I ran two screens on Windows 8 without issue but can't remember if i removed the second monitor before I upgraded to Windows 8.1. All the graphics drivers are upto date as is the BIOS and Windows generally. Bit stumped.

Thanks

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

Indeed I did. Sorted with the latest Intel HD4600 driver.

Thanks for that but I still have the same problem. All three outputs seems to work Ok as long as only one monitor is attached. As soon as i add a second it all goes wonky.

Oddly it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the outputs or drivers. It seems to be the monitors. I have a 24" Dell and an older 21" Samsung. It appears that regardless of which monitor is plugged where or what monitor goes in first the older Samsung takes control of the screen and the Dell just goes blank? If the Dell is plugged in first then as soon as the Samsung is added the Dell goes blank and if the samsung goes in first the Dell never shows a desktop at all.

Very odd.

As Sneaky says, make sure you identify the monitors in right click desktop > Personalise > Display > Change Display settings > Detect then Identify

May help?

And it was that easy. I was showing only 'Monitor 1' in the settings. 'Extend these displays' now selected and it's all good. Thanks guys for the advice. I'm immediately thinking complicated motherboard, river Windows 8.1 shenanigans and rushing off in the wrong direction.

Still not sure why the Samsung always became the 'Monitor 1' regardless of which output it was connected to or in whether the Dell was already connected. Still it's working so who cares.
