Unsurprisingly, a large proportion of the vocal minority have completely misunderstood the proposed system for one reason or another, and Chris has had to lay down some tough love on them...

Harsh though it may seem I don't want this feature. I think it will take something away from people's experience of the final game. But i must admit, may be nice to see implemented for the final game. When it's finished... And paid for. And I get my damn ships!

I'm not sure what you mean, Galatoni.

REC is only for the duration of the alpha and beta and won't be part of the final game.  It's just a way of encouraging more people to play test, and give people a way to try out ships and weapons that they don't currently own without having to buy them first.

But having tried them in alpha and beta will they try them again in pu? I feel this is a distraction. I can imagine a lot of people will like REC however.

I think they have already said this is an alpha beta element only as Obsydian said, so it's not distracting, it's attracting & encouraging more people to play test during alpha beta so we end up with a better game.    I see no negative at all in this, especially as success it is not wallet-size related.
