Mod test server

Well even i jumped on the test server as soon as i could find out how to get on it, i just clicked on the join message on the web and via that downloaded the mod etc.

But for the run it self:

Server is the same as the normal one, it had a save running from Friday maybe Saturday.
This gave us the option to look around with the stuff we have and to see what has changed with the mod etc.

Things i directly noticed was ofcourse some of the looks, but when flying around i noticed that my bird was eating alot more then normal (might be a server setting).
That i had instead of 70 engram points to spend i had 700 with alot more stuff to choose from and some stuff was removed.

At that point Sith also joined the server and we had a chat on ts about it.

Dino's are on maximum levels, that means you can encounter lvl 120 dino's.
Some food and harvesting stuff where changed to not make it to hard.

We took the Giga for a spin and he took out everything out without any problems including myself (yes we got him to beserk mode).

After all that we had a chat on ok what next.

The mod looks promising with a lot of extra stuff to do for everyone.
But to really test it we need a clean server, as we could start new a survivor now but have no real clear area to start at, as all over the island there are buildings and dino's from the tribe that will kill us (looks at wandering dino's or the bases that have turrets placed etc.)
So if Oldie or Whitey can wipe the server that would be good to get a few of us online and test it from starting level.

As if we agree on this is really something for our normal server the admins need to know what they are talking about:narnar:


Alpha's:
here is a problem we are all well aware of, with the dino's on max lvl all fine and well, there is also that we are going to have to deal with some very high level alpha's.
Sith and myself talked about that and Sith was going to look a bit more into it as we might be able to adjust the server to disable certain alpha's (t-rex) but still allow the raptors and carno's.

Why i see the alpha's as a major problem if we go for this: We have a very small player group that will not be in a position to handle a high lvl alpha. On the public servers they round up some people to deal with a high level t-rex.
We don't have the numbers to do the same, and with the mod we don't have the advanced gear available to help out as we do now.

So that needs some more looking into and talked about what is best etc.


Map:
We also talked about the map, the standard map in our current play style is for our feeling just a bit to small. But there are a few things to consider aswell:

Higher level dino's, with the higher difficulty on the server it will mean that people have to play as a team and not as we do now, that a lot of us are on their own.
This brings in that at least in the beginning of the game everyone is in a small area anyway, that means a bigger map isn't needed.
Untill you get to the point as we are now that everyone is high level enough and thinks he/she can handle him/her self out there.

With the mod, the mod removes some of the advanced stuff we have now, but also adds a lot more other stuff that people can now specialize in a certain playstyle there is even enough stuff to get some roleplaying going if people want that.
This is for myself also a point we don't need a other map etc.

But to make it a real new challenge a new map if it is bigger then the standard one or not would bring in the complete challenge as then everything is new.
With the current map we all know where to go if we would start over. For me that would mean the 4th time of starting over on a map that i know way to well and that isn't a challenge anymore.

Sith said that there is another map we might use that is 30% bigger that the current one and might be worth looking into.




I think i put the story down on here what we found out while on the server.
Main thing is for now to get a clean start and a few of us together on a starting locating and start playing etc.


And please add anything you have to say etc. so we can work out what is best for the tribe etc.

And the server setting to fix the alpha situation is basically a swap out, we swap the alpha rex spawns with something else, like alpha raptors, or dodo's, or we completely disable them. the setting is:
NPCReplacements=(FromClassName="",ToClassName="")

where its MegaRex_Character_BP_C to something else completely from the entities list, like a Dilo_Character_BP_C for dilophasaurs etc...

I'm also all for wiping the test server, since that forces you to see from a lvl 1 perspective,
Once ingame guys remember the new engrams appear below the old ones regardless of level, so don't panic when you don't see them, or you see them and think they are lvl 80+ they aren't they just are listed at the bottom.

Otherwise, lets get some more admins in and sniffing about, once its wiped we all spawn West coast and meet up since thats a nicely balanced area.

I'm really looking forward to getting cracking on this. Really excited about getting cracking with it.

I second the server wipe. It would give a much more authentic experience in general and also reinforce the difficulty.
