Well, after my recent transition to ati I am struggling a bit with making their drivers and associated software work correctly. Not quite as smooth as nvidia was, but then I think it's mainly the AIW bit of the card that is scuppering me...

Is there anyone else who has an aiw card that can guide me a little bit as to which of the many ati driver and software packages I should be downloading and installing. They seem to have several different packs each of which contains common elements but then has replacement bits. I am rather lost...and I have some sort of conflicts somewhere because the TV thing fails to load with the error ATIMMC.exe has encountered a problem and the error points me towards mfc71.dll as the possible culprit.

I know how this all happened...I installed the catalyst 5.6 drivers (one of the two packages of the ATI site) and then installed off the driver CD that came with my graphics card to get the TV functionality etc. This did some strange things but seemed to sort of work. Of course these were the old drivers so I tried to update back to 5.6 and also update the multimedia drivers and software.

My biggest complaint is that the ATI drivers install themselves in all sorts of locations on my hard drive, as it is partitioned into a few separate bits. One install ight put things on 2, or even all 3 partitios by the look of it. Anyway...any help would be nice 8)

My 8500 won't load the latest MMC software properly, so I run it back a few versions.  I can boot the tvPC up and check later tonight to see what I found was stable for MMC.  There is/was a program on the atitech.com site that allowed you to wipe the ATI software and install from scratch (like the nvidia program).  Been awhile since I've looked at it.  At one point I installed everything from the CD and started making system restore points in XP until I found a stable version.  It was tedious and since I moved it to a Win2K box, I haven't cared to really push to see what will work now.

Also, you can find a stable mmc and then download the Catalyst drivers themselves and not update the mmc.

Yep, it's a pain in the TANGO sometimes with the AIW.   :ranting:
But when it works...  :dribble:

added:  I just re-read yours.  I would
  • Uninstall all ATI software/drivers
  • Load the drivers for everything from the CD
  • Update using the Catalyst package that doesn't include the extras (it's smaller)
Get it off the ground with the stock cd drivers and going from there has always worked for me.

It's been a while since I first installed my AIW but I remember having probs with the TV which, after having found the solution on the ATI support pages, turned out to be a problem with a piece of MS software cured by a small patch.
