Please can we up the server limit? I am frustrated at not being able to join my own clan server - I see that there are 4 dMw clan members on the server tonight. I wonder how many are trying to get on?

I am NOT against all the PCS people playing as long as (selfishly) I can get on  .

Things are so bad I just bound F9 to the "retry" command

Can we not go back to 20 player limit?

I thought that Baldric was supposed to be an overflow server, but the password is not what I thought it was, i.e. the same as the hook  :(
If the limit is not going to be raised can you get Baldrics password reset, puhhleaze  :P
I do exactly what the little voices tell me to.

PC Specs:- Black box with some fans that go whirrr, a few lights, things inside that get warm, headphones, keyboard (a clicky one), mouse (with buttons and no squeak), disks (2-off SSD and HDD) and a monitor of sufficient proportions.

It is, but playing 1 v 1 is not my idea of a good night of CS :-(

This is a difficult one to remedy I'm afraid BB.

The simple truth is that anything over 8v8 is not PCS.

If we up the limit then the gameplay suffers.  :?

Reserved slots that kick for dMw players.....I'm not nasty really.

I understand the frustration of being locked out of your own server - I have been there myself.  But it is important that we start overflowing onto Baldric rather than just waiting for a slot on Homer.

Personally I prefer the better gameplay that 8 v 8 gives us, higher numbers had us all complaining at the DM style that developed on some maps.

The server pw for baldric should be the same as homer - apologies if it was not - I'll try to go have a look and reset it.

Selfishly I don't agree with reserved slots. I did drop off this evening specifically to see if there was any action on the other server. As it was empty I jumped straight back on  27015.

Firstly you have to decide is the server for dMw members or the PCS community. If it's for the latter then theoretically I have as much right to a slot as a dMw player. If the server was a subscription (i.e dMw players paid for it) then obvioulsy it a completely different matter and dMw should always get preference.  If the server is for dMw first and us commoners second, reserved slots seems the only way. The trouble is that the community that you have built up will quickly disappear if non dMw players get booted off in the middle of a game. I ran a paid for 12 slot server and as admin I got loads of abuse from complete strangers, when they were kicked to allow a paid up clan member on.

Maybe the dMw should try to join both servers randomly. As I'm sure many dMw stay in touch in other ways than just this forum (ICQ, phone etc.) maybe some of them could agree to use the other server before hand. If non dMw players see both servers with four or so players on, then they should fill evenly.

I do feel that finding ways to fill both servers with a good mix of dMw, PCS regulars and new visitors is the way you should go.

Just my pennies worth  :)

I am fully for the fact that the MeatHook should be for PCS and not exclusively dMw. Yes, the dMw peeps did pay for it but TBH (and correct me if I'm wrong) it was paid for by PCS players not exclusively dMw (I'm sure I hadn't joined dMw when I forked out). That said, I didn't offer to contribute because I wanted a reserved slot; I donated because I believed in what these guys were doing (and still do). IMHO PCS is more important than dMw, it doesn't matter what clan you are in, it's the attitude that counts and I believe that PCS should exist whether dMw does or not (i believe dMw will though 'coz we're just so bloody nice).

That said, I WANNA GET ON THE BUSY SERVER ;-)

Sage words. Maybe as soon as a server is full a dMw admin (if there is one) or a dMw members grabs a handfull of regulars (oh err) and jumps across to the other server. Regulars will know whats going on so it should be relatively simple to get them to switch.

if the problem is that only about 4 (just a guess) people cant get on the server because its full, and dont want to go to baldric because 2v2 is pants then reduce the server limit of meathook by 2-4 or some reasonable number so you can get more ppl on baldric and everyone can get a game. personally i prefer games with smaller teams  so i wouldnt mind a ittle game on baldric  8)

when the server is ful if only we could get a few ppl to drop to the otehr server then get a game started there, makybe if we get a few dropping when the sevre is full then we could get both sevrers goiung.

I think it's that critical mass thing.

If the server is empty I won't go on.

If there are 1-3 players I still won't go on as I'm not good enough to make 2v2 fun for my partner.

If there are 5 players plus I connect.

Someone else is going to do it  completely differently. Sadako might relish a 1v1 with Blueball for example. I'd just die a lot.

As soon as we see a few players on  the server we join. So it seems straight forward enough that when one server fills to 16 then, for example, six players move across, creating a 10 server and a 6 server. Both servers will then fill up evenly, right up to 16 on each if necessary. The problem seems to be making that initial jump from one server to the other. I still think a dMw senior/player/admin or whatever can ask/order five other players across to the empty server. After a while it may well become second nature, like balancing the teams.

That's a shame as I think I learned more playing on small teams with people like Sadako, TL and oldie (apologies if I've missed anyone) than I do in big matches. I didn't get as bad as I am today with out being crap :-)

And what makes you different to me :-)

Now that is an excellent idea. Can we make this policy?

Well, I'm not into ordering but I'm sure if the regulars lead then others would follow?

TeaLeaf

There's only one way to findout - I'll try it next time I am on MH and it gets full, I will pull some peeps me and 5 others) to Baldric.

Just remember, the only downside of this is on dMw match nights where at a predetermined time a bunch of players will disappear.  So if they do disappear you need to be checking the other server's population to make sure that you have crtical mass to play decent PCS.
