extended warranty my TANGO

QuoteI've managed to get a copy of the literature list for the PC World Staff Induction Course and you're right, it's not on it.

What is on it though, is........

"Extended Warrantees" - How to sell a three year warrantee on a product which costs more than the product itself.

Seemed relevant....

Nice read....although there is the opinion that people who spend any apreciable[sp] amount of money at these 'pile 'em high flog 'em cheap" retailers deserve what they get.

Of course I would never be that harsh.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

ChimpBoy

Yes you would - we all know you're a complete technology snob.   :)

Pity those poor folks who buy the system checks at Pc World or the "latest" hardware from Currys.  Pity them as they know not what they do.....
If I wanted you to understand I would have explained it better

smilodon

Without being the "techno- snob" you're accusing me of, I'll explain my point.

I know bugger all about Hi-Fi. I mean I really know absolutely nothing. CD, RCD, Dat, woofers tweeters and bags on me head.....I'm clueless.

But suppose I want to buy a system. I don't know what's good, what's bad or even what I really want.

Now I have upto £1500 to spend on a system. I might only really need a £300 set-up, as I don't really have an ear for music. The truth is I don't know what I want, just that I want something.

Do I

a).  Walk straight into Dixons, straight up to the nearest assistant and say

"I'm a clueless know-nothing with upto £1500 to spend, so sell me something." ?

or

B). Buy a half dozen mags on HiFi's and check their buyers guides and best buy sections. Then speak to a few friends who are HiFi buffs. Then armed with a bit of knowledge visit a half dozen shops and finally after careful consideration buy a system?

It just amazes me how willing punters are to part with wads of cash and buy complete crap, from shops with awful after-sales service and from a salesperson who knows less about their products than the customer does.

Preach over

Goto Richer sounds, explain what you are looking for and they will put together a system that suits your needs and budget. You will also be able to listen to it in a nice room designed for that purpose. Take along some of your cds so you know what your music (not a standard demo cd) sounds like. if you don't like it say so and they will change components till you get something you like!

What about BlueBall's Emporium? What am I bid for a Linn Sondek LP12 with a Syrinx PU3B Tonearm?

smilodon

As it happens I don't actually want a hifi. It was just an example to illustrate a point about careful shopping.

The advice is sound though. Ritcher Sounds is a great shop. My entire home cinema system comes courtesy of the good folk at Ritcher.

And sorry BlueBall I have no idea what that meant. See I really am clueless.
